Description: The Edmonton Oilers placed Ben Eager on the IR with a concussion.
Insight: Wingers who haven't cracked the 20-point mark in any season have little fantasy value, though Eager has amassed more than 100 penalty minutes in each of the last four seasons for those who need help in one category.

Description: The Edmonton Oilers have signed Ben Eager to a three-year contract worth $3.3 million. The Oilers have also signed Cam Barker and Darcy Hordichuk. TSN
Insight: The Oilers have made their team a lot tougher with the Eager and Hordichuk signings. With Eager, they are investing a relatively lengthy contract on some much-needed toughness on the forward lines. Barker, meanwhile, had his contract recently bought out by the Minnesota Wild.

Description: Sharks coach Todd McLellan replaced fourth-liners Ben Eager, Scott Nichol, and Benn Ferriero with Jamie McGinn, Andrew Desjardins, and Jamal Mayers for Game 3 against Vancouver on Friday. Yahoo Sports
Insight: McLellan seemed to use some gamesmanship in mentioning that he was planning to play Eager in Game 3.The Sharks were the more disciplined team in Game 3, but McLellan won't be happy about the five-minute major that McGinn took in the third period.

Description: Ben Eager won't be suspended for his reckless hit on Daniel Sedin late in the second period of Game 2 on Wednesday. TSN
Insight: Sharks coach Todd McLellan sounded as if he planned to put Eager in for Game 3 on Friday. The Canucks will probably be just fine with that, as his needless penalties during Game 2 turned the game well into the Canucks' favor. If Eager not a healthy scratch, expect Game 3 to get a little testy.

Description: Ben Eager scored a goal but cost his team by taking four minor penalties in the Sharks' 7-3 loss to Vancouver in Game 2 on Wednesday. Yahoo Sports
Insight: Sharks coach Todd McLellan thought using Eager against the Sedins would work, but he couldn't have made a worse decision. Eager took his first penalty late in the second period, followed by another penalty nearly seven minutes into the third period which led to a Canucks' power-play goal. Gary Bettman and Colin Campbell were in attendance for this game, so Eager may even be suspended for his boarding penalty late in the second period on Daniel Sedin.

Description: The Atlanta Thrashers have traded enforcer Ben Eager to the San Jose Sharks for a fifth-round draft pick. Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Insight: Eager should supply the Sharks with some much-needed toughness. However, don't expect him to play on either of the top two scoring lines for his new team.
1/8/2011 12:24:00 PM
Description: The NHL has suspended Thrashers forward Ben Eager for four games for his sucker punch to Leafs forward Colby Armstrong during Friday's game. TSN
Insight: The Leafs were winning big 5-1 when Eager took a swipe at Armstrong, a former Thrasher. Eager received a match penalty, to which the Leafs were able to take advantage on the five-minute major and add to their lead en route to a 9-3 blowout. Eager has 10 points and 77 penalty minutes in 34 games this season.

Description: The Atlanta Thrashers have avoided arbitration with Ben Eager by signing him to a one-year contract worth $965,000. TSN
Insight: Eager came to the Thrashers from Chicago in the Dustin Byfuglien salary dump. Eager is an enforcer who can score a little too (16 points and 120 penalty minutes in 60 games).
