Description: The Ottawa Senators have signed Zenon Konopka to a one-year contract worth $700,000. TSN
Insight: Konopka will provide the Senators with serious toughness, as he led the NHL in both penalty minutes (307) and fighting majors (25). Surprisingly, he also possesses faceoff ability, so expect him to be a regular in the Sens' lineup next season.

Description: Zenon Konopka has responded to Mario Lemieux's comments on Sunday, suggesting that the Penguins' owner and former star player is out of touch with the league. TSN
Insight: "I can't believe he's that far removed from the game that he doesn't realize in the heat of the moment what happens," said Konopka, who leads the NHL with 193 PIM. "We're trying to keep our best players on the ice, we want John Tavares to be a superstar in this league and play every night." The Isles' tough guy has a point to some degree, as NHL players are forced to police themselves if officials and the NHL aren't going to. The Isles aren't exactly innocent given Friday's transgressions, but neither is Lemieux given the fact that 1) He signs the paychecks of chronic disturbers like Matt Cooke, and 2) He hasn't gotten involved often in attempts to improve the game until now.

Description: Zenon Konopka told a TSN reporter on Thursday morning that he was tired of the Islanders being called "doormats," instead preferring that they be called a "young, hard-working team."
Insight: The Islanders' play has improved recently, as they had won seven times over a nine-game stretch recently. They have lost three of their past four games, but they appear to be a hungrier team despite losing key veterans recently. They play a Senators team that has been struggling, so players like John Tavares, young goalie Kevin Poulin, and even tough guy/faceoff specialist Konopka are decent starts, depending on your league format.
