NHL Game Summary - Chicago at San Jose

(Saturday, February 1st)

Final Score: San Jose 2, Chicago 1 (SO)

San Jose, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Joe Pavelski, Patrick Marleau and Joe Thornton all scored in the shootout to give the San Jose Sharks a 2-1 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks on Saturday.

Pavelski also lit the lamp in regulation for the Sharks, who snapped a three- game skid. Antti Niemi stopped 29-of-30 shots.

"It always feels good to win, especially when you lose a few in a row," Pavelski said. "When we play our game, we know what we want to accomplish in here."

Brandon Saad scored for the Blackhawks, who have lost five of their past six games. Corey Crawford turned aside 38-of-39 shots.

"It's a tough loss, I think. We played well," Crawford said. "They're a good team in their building. We definitely had a chance again to win tonight -- a couple of chances late to win the game, we've just got to figure it out in the shootout."

The Sharks, who managed one goal during their three-game losing streak, scored the game's first goal at 6:10 of the third period. A bad breakout pass from Chicago forward Patrick Sharp led to Pavelski's short-handed goal.

Saad responded with a power-play goal at 7:13. San Jose defenseman Justin Braun failed to clear the puck out of his own zone. Kris Versteeg slid a pass over to Saad, who beat Niemi for his 18th goal of the season.

Pavelski and Jonathan Toews each scored in the first round of the shootout. Marleau fired a shot through Crawford's pads to open the second round. Niemi denied Sharp before Thornton scored in the third round to seal the outcome.
