NHL Game Summary - Ottawa at Philadelphia

(Tuesday, November 19th)

Final Score: Philadelphia 5, Ottawa 2

Philadelphia, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - Kimmo Timonen scored with 8:30 to play and Wayne Simmonds notched a goal moments later, as the Philadelphia Flyers took a 5-2 win over the Ottawa Senators on Tuesday.

Claude Giroux, Sean Couturier and Adam Hall also potted goals, while Steve Mason stopped 32 shots for the Flyers, who have won four of their last five games.

"With the other team scoring the tying goal there and us coming right back and getting the two big ones, that's something that we haven't done all season long," said Mason. "For us to have that in the third period in a big game is nice to see. The guys have worked hard for it."

Clarke MacArthur had a goal and an assist while Kyle Turris also scored for the Senators, who have lost three of their last four. Robin Lehner gave up four goals on 41 shots in the loss.

"I thought we played a good game," said Lehner. "It's too bad that I couldn't be there for the guys today. I had a bad one today. That's life. I had a bad outing today."

With the score tied, Ottawa had a golden chance to take the lead as Turris was all alone in front of the net with Mason out of position. His shot, though, went off the left skate of Nicklas Grossmann, then his right skate, and stayed out of the net.

Play continued for a bit after and when the whistle blew with 9:06 to play there was a lengthy review. However, the no-goal call on the ice was upheld and the game stayed tied at 2-2.

It didn't stay that way for long, though, as Matt Read left a drop pass in the left corner for Timonen, who came flying down from the point and cut to the front before putting the puck in for his first of the year with 8:30 left.

The Flyers then gave themselves some insurance 23 seconds later as Simmonds rushed the zone and fired a shot on net that was stopped. The puck eventually found its way back to Simmonds and he cashed in on his second chance for a 4-2 lead.

Turris was hauled down by Timonen and awarded a penalty shot with 5:06 to play, but Mason stopped his backhand offering.

Hall scored with the net empty in the final minute to seal the win.

The Flyers took a 1-0 lead with 2:16 to play in the first period on the power play, as Giroux took a pass from Jakub Voracek at the left circle and wristed it home for his second of the year.

It was a 2-0 game at 5:18 of the second as Couturier snuck in a shot from the left side for his first of the season.

Ottawa, though, got a goal back on the power play at 8:13 as MacArthur took a pass at the top of the left circle and lasered a wrister into the right corner for his fourth of the season.

Turris scored on another power play at 3:12 of the third period to tie the game with his fifth of the year.
