Hemsky, Lindback sign with Stars
Frisco, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - The Dallas Stars added a top-six forward and bolstered their goaltending depth as the free agency period got underway.
The club signed crafty winger Ales Hemsky to a three-year contract and netminder Anders Lindback to a one-year deal on Tuesday.
The news comes hours after the Stars acquired center Jason Spezza in a trade with the Ottawa Senators.
Hemsky, 30, ended the 2013-14 season as Spezza's linemate after arriving from Edmonton at the trade deadline in March.
The Czech was selected by the Oilers in the first round (13th overall) of the 2001 NHL Draft and he collected 477 points, including 142 goals, in 652 games prior to being dealt to Ottawa. He produced at nearly a point-per-game clip with the Senators, finishing with four goals and 17 points in 20 games.
"Ales Hemsky is an accomplished, skilled winger who has great vision and finish," said Stars general manager Jim Nill. "His right-handed shot will complement our forward group nicely and provide balance throughout our lineup."
The 26-year-old Lindback spent the past two seasons with Tampa Bay, going 18-22-3 with a 2.90 goals-against average and .897 save percentage.
