Blues keep Elliott with 3-year extension

St. Louis, MO (SportsNetwork.com) - The St. Louis Blues have re-signed goaltender Brian Elliott to a three-year contract extension.

Monday's news means Ryan Miller's short stint with the club is over.

The Blues made a blockbuster deal with Buffalo to acquire the veteran Miller near the trade deadline. Miller was considered to be the final piece of the puzzle for a St. Louis team that was expected to make a deep playoff run, but the move didn't pay off as the Blues lost in the first round to Chicago.

Miller will become an unrestricted free agent this summer.

Elliott also could have tested the market, but opted to stay with the Blues.

Elliott, 29, posted an 18-6-2 record with a 1.96 goals-against average and .922 save percentage in 31 games last season, and Blues general manager Doug Armstrong said he "will team up with Jake Allen next season to form our goaltending tandem."

The 23-year-old Allen was named the American Hockey League's top goaltender with the Chicago Wolves for the 2013-14 regular season after going 33-16-3 with a 2.03 GAA and is viewed as the Blues' future in the crease.

Elliott has spent the last three seasons with the Blues and ranks second in team history with 16 shutouts.

For his career, he has a record of 116-77-23 with a 2.48 GAA and .910 save percentage in 235 games with Ottawa, Colorado and St. Louis.
