Islanders' Tavares leads NHL's 'Three Stars'
New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - New York Islanders center John Tavares was recognized Monday as the NHL's top performer for the week ending Jan. 12.
Tavares had four goals and six assists while guiding the Islanders to a season-high four consecutive victories. He recorded his second career five- point game, including his fifth career hat trick, in a 7-3 win over the Dallas Stars on Jan. 6.
Anaheim Ducks goaltender Jonas Hiller earned the Second Star after posting a 3-0-0 record with a 1.67 goals-against average, .941 save percentage and one shutout while helping the NHL-leading Ducks extend their winning streak to seven games. The Ducks became the fifth team in NHL history to win 17 or more games over an 18-game span.
The Third Star went to New York Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist after he went 3-0-1 with a 1.97 GAA and .943 save percentage.
