Sabres ink No. 2 pick Reinhart

Buffalo, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - The Buffalo Sabres signed the second overall pick in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft, forward Sam Reinhart, to a three- year, entry-level contract on Saturday.

Reinhart, who became the Sabres' highest draft pick since Pierre Turgeon was selected first overall in 1987, was selected from Kootenay of the Western Hockey League and was named the WHL 2013-14 Player of the Year and Most Sportsmanlike Player of the Year.

The 18-year-old captain led Kootenay with 105 points (30 goals, 69 assists). He also tallied six goals and 17 assists in 13 playoff games while helping his team advance three rounds before falling to the Portland Winterhawks in the Western Conference Championship

"We are very excited to have Sam under contract," said Sabres general manager Tim Murray. "We look forward to watching him develop and become an important part of our organization in the future."

Reinhart also captained Canada's gold medal-winning teams at the 2012 Ivan Hlinka Memorial and the 2013 Under-18 World Championship.
