Russia remains perfect at Worlds
Minsk, Belarus (SportsNetwork.com) - Russia continued its winning ways by beating Latvia, 4-1, Saturday at the 2014 World Hockey Championship.
Russia fell behind early against Latvia, but took control by scoring three times later in the first period.
Viktor Tikhonov had two of the goals and set up the other as the Russians improved to a perfect 5-0 in Group B play. They have outscored opponents 26-6 in the preliminary round.
Meanwhile, Mikhail Grabovski registered two goals and one assist as Belarus earned a share of second place in Group B with a 5-2 come-from-behind win over Germany.
Switzerland, meanwhile, recorded its second win in the Group B bracket with a 6-2 decision over Kazakhstan. Denis Hollenstein, Andres Ambuhl and Luca Cunti each had a goal and an assist to help the Swiss build a 6-0 lead just over six minutes into the third period.
In Group A action, France and Denmark posted shootout wins over Norway and the Czech Republic, respectively, while Slovakia earned a 4-1 verdict over Italy.
The Slovaks outshot the Italians by a 53-20 margin and received a goal and assist each from Marek Daloga, Tomas Tatar and Michel Miklik.
