Blue Jackets nab D Schultz from Oilers
Columbus, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - The Edmonton Oilers have shipped veteran defenseman Nick Schultz to the Columbus Blue Jackets at Wednesday's trade deadline in exchange for a fifth-round selection in the upcoming NHL Draft.
Schultz has played in 871 regular-season games over a 12-year career, the majority of which was spent with the Minnesota Wild. The 31-year-old recorded four assists and 24 penalty minutes over 60 contests with Edmonton in 2013-14.
The Oilers had acquired Schultz from the Wild in exchange for defenseman Tom Gilbert in February of 2012.
Columbus, which presently owns a one-point lead for the final Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference, was involved in one of the day's bigger deals earlier Wednesday. The Blue Jackets traded seven-time 30-goal scorer Marian Gaborik to the Los Angeles Kings for forward Matt Frattin and a pair of conditional draft choices.
