Coyotes acquire Erat from Capitals
Scottsdale, AZ (SportsNetwork.com) - The Phoenix Coyotes acquired forwards Martin Erat and John Mitchell from the Washington Capitals Tuesday in exchange for forward Chris Brown, defenseman Rostislav Klesla and a fourth-round pick in the 2015 draft.
Erat racked up 23 assists and one goal in 53 games for the Capitals this season after posting one goal and two helpers in nine games with the team at the end of last season after being acquired from the Nashville Predators on April 3, 2013.
The 32-year-old native of Czechoslovakia spent his first 10-plus seasons in Nashville and has recorded 165 goals and 343 assists in 785 career NHL games.
Mitchell has posted three goals and three assists in 20 games with Hershey of the American Hockey League this season.
Brown, 23, has appeared in just 11 games with Phoenix over the last two seasons since being selected by the team in the second round of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.
Klesla collected one goal and four points in 25 games with Phoenix this season, his 13th in the NHL. The 31-year-old blueliner has 48 goals and 111 assists in 659 career games with Columbus and Phoenix.
