National Hockey League Playoff Game Capsules
(Saturday, May 25th)
Final Score: Boston 3, NY Rangers 1
Boston, MA (Sports Network) - Gregory Campbell scored the go-ahead and insurance goals, while Tuukka Rask made 28 saves as the Boston Bruins eliminated the New York Rangers with a 3-1 decision in Game 5 of this Eastern Conference semifinal from TD Garden. Torey Krug added another marker for the Bruins, who reached the conference finals for the second time in the last three years. Boston will take on the top-seeded Penguins in the Eastern Conference finals, the first time these two clubs meet in the penultimate playoff round since Pittsburgh swept the Bruins in four straight 21 years ago. Dan Girardi's first-period strike was all the offense for the Rangers, who couldn't maintain momentum from Thursday's 4-3 overtime victory which kept them alive in the best-of-seven set. Henrik Lundqvist stopped 29 shots in New York's season-ending defeat.
Final Score: Chicago 4, Detroit 1
Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - Andrew Shaw scored a pair of goals and Corey Crawford turned away 25 shots as the Chicago Blackhawks stayed alive with a 4-1 victory over Detroit in Game 5 of this Western Conference semifinal series. The Blackhawks won Game 1 of this series, but then dropped the next three for their first three-game losing streak of the season to fall into a 3-1 hole. Bryan Bickell and Jonathan Toews also scored while Duncan Keith added two assists for the Blackhawks, who went 2-for-3 on the power play to keep the series going. Daniel Cleary had the lone Detroit goal while Jimmy Howard gave up all four goals on 45 shots for the Red Wings, who will have another chance to close out this set on Monday, when Game 6 will be played in Detroit.
