Devils re-sign Zajac to long-term deal

Newark, NJ (Sports Network) - The New Jersey Devils re-signed center Travis Zajac to a long-term deal, the team announced Wednesday.

As per club policy, no further terms were disclosed, but multiple reports cite the pact to be worth $46 million over eight years.

"During his time in New Jersey, Travis Zajac has become a solid, all-situation player and one of the core leaders of our hockey club," Devils' general manager Lou Lamoriello said.

Zajac missed the majority of last season recovering from an Achilles injury, but turned it on during New Jersey's run to the Stanley Cup Finals, as the 27- year-old Canadian compiled seven goals and seven assists over 24 postseason contests.

A first-round selection (20th overall) of the Devils back in 2004, Zajac has spent all six of his NHL seasons in New Jersey, racking up 91 goals and 164 assists over 423 regular-season games.

New Jersey opens the season on the road against the New York Islanders on Saturday.
