Stars bring in Whitney with 2-year deal
Frisco, TX (Sports Network) - The Dallas Stars signed free agent forward Ray Whitney to a two-year contract on Sunday.
The 40-year-old winger tallied 24 times and posted 77 points while playing in all 82 regular-season games for Phoenix last season. He added two goals and seven points in 16 postseason appearances as the Coyotes reached the conference finals for the first time in franchise history.
"Ray Whitney was among the most productive players in the league last season and showed he remains extremely capable and dangerous," said Stars general manager Joe Nieuwendyk.
A former second-round pick of the San Jose Sharks back in 1991, Whitney has racked up 365 goals and 1,003 points over 1,229 contests, adding 21 scores and 53 points in 103 playoff games.
Whitney has suited up for the Sharks, Oilers, Panthers, Blue Jackets, Red Wings, Hurricanes and Coyotes over a distinguished 20-year NHL career.
