Kings celebrate 1st Stanley Cup title
Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - The Los Angeles Kings celebrated the franchise's first Stanley Cup championship with a parade through the city on Thursday.
The Kings became the first No. 8 seed to win the Cup when they downed the New Jersey Devils, 6-1, in Game 6 on Monday.
Festivities began with the players riding on the roof of several busses with the Stanley Cup through the streets of Los Angeles, starting at the corner of Figueroa and West 5th and ending at Staples Center.
Once the parade reached the arena, Kings defenseman Matt Greene acknowledged the crowd.
"You guys have been unbelievable for us," he said. "I know this has been a long time coming."
Captain Dustin Brown then handed Greene the Cup and the players raised it over their heads as confetti rained down and the crowd cheered for the Kings' first title since their inception in 1967.
