Rangers' Gaborik to undergo surgery
New York, NY (Sports Network) - New York Rangers forward Marian Gaborik will undergo surgery next week to have a torn labrum in his shoulder repaired.
The Rangers said the procedure will take place next Wednesday in Manhattan. The team did not give a timetable for recovery, but the native of Slovakia told reporters in his home country that he could miss the start of the 2012-13 season.
Gaborik was one of seven Rangers to appear in all 82 regular-season games and led the team with 41 goals and 76 points. He managed only 11 points in 20 playoff games, compiling five goals and six assists, as the Rangers were eliminated in the conference finals by New Jersey.
In 722 games over 11 NHL seasons, Gaborik has 324 goals with 323 assists for 647 points. The 30-year-old veteran was selected by Minnesota with the third overall pick of the 2000 NHL Entry Draft and spent his first eight seasons with the Wild before joining the Rangers as a free agent for the start of the 2009-10 season.
