Description: The Gilroy Dispatch reports the Vikings contacted Garcia to see if he'd be ready to go if Brett Favre decides to retire.
Insight: Garcia essentially declined under the assumption Favre will be playing this season. He will play for the UFL's Omaha Nighthawks instead. (Rapid

Description: A source reports that free agent QB Jeff Garcia has been working out and is intent on getting a job in the NFL. SOURCE: NATIONAL FOOTBALL POST
Insight: The closest Garcia could get to being on an NFL team again will be if the Eagles end up cutting Michael Vick, which seems more and more unlikely. Garcia has been known to be a bit of a troublemaker in the fact that he will tell anyone that listens that he is competing for a starting job, even though he is usually brought in to be a backup.

Description: National Football Post reports Garcia has been working out and is intent on getting a job in the NFL this season.
Insight: Garcia may have to wait for an injury in training camp to get an opportunity as a No. 2 or 3 quarterback for someone. (

Description: The Gilroy (CA) Dispatch reports Garcia confirmed that his agent has spoken to the Eagles
Insight: If Garcia does sign with the Eagles, it is unlikely to be until after next week's draft. Philadelphia would likely have to find a taker for Michael Vick first. (
4/14/2010 11:33:00 PM
Description: Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports, via Twitter, that the Eagles will not make a move involving Garcia before next week's draft.
Insight: Garcia could be a fit as a veteran backup to largely untested starter Kevin Kolb if the Eagles want to go that route. (
4/12/2010 11:04:00 AM
Description: The Philadelphia Daily News reports "nothing is imminent" between the Eagles and Garcia.
Insight: Garcia could be a fit as Kevin Kolb's backup if the Eagles are able to trade Michael Vick. (
3/11/2010 1:55:00 AM
Description: The Tampa Tribune reports Garcia said he wants to continue his playing career.
Insight: Garcia spent most of 2009 out of football, and at age 40 may not get a lot of interest from teams. (
3/7/2010 9:54:00 PM
Description: The NY Daily News reports the Giants are expected to explore the possibility of signing Garcia as Eli Manning's backup.
Insight: The report also mentions Mark Brunell as a possibility, but in any case the Giants are in the market for a backup QB since they have now lost David Carr to the 49ers. (
9/30/2009 9:06:00 AM
Description: Garcia was released by the Philadelphia Eagles on Tuesday.
Insight: Garcia was released to make room for LB Jeremiah Trotter. He seems likely to land somewhere else, but that is purely speculative. (
9/14/2009 7:39:00 PM
Description: According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Philadelphia Eagles have signed Garcia.
Insight: Garcia was among the Oakland Raiders' final cuts, and previously played for the Eagles in 2006. He could start immediately if Donovan McNabb (broken rib) can't go in Week 2 against New Orleans. (

Description: Garcia, who had been dealing with a calf injury, returned to practice on Monday. (Jerry McDonald of the Bay Area News Group, via Twitter)
Insight: Garcia looks likely to open the season as JaMarcus Russell's backup, but if Russell struggles he could see action at some point this season. (
Out8/4/2009 3:33:00 PM
Description: Garcia strained his calf over the weekend during practice and is currently resting it.
Insight: Garcia has an excellent chance of playing quarterback at some point this year for the Raiders. However, he is getting up there in years and has dealt with lingering injuries recently, so keep an eye on his progress. (
Steady4/7/2009 9:39:00 AM
Description: Garcia signed a one-year deal with the Raiders.
Insight: Garcia will be a veteran backup for JaMarcus Russell. He has had success as an NFL vagabond backup/starter. Garcia may see some success in his return to the bay area. (
Steady4/5/2009 11:50:00 AM
Description: reported that the Raiders had shown some interest in bringing Garcia in. A contract had not been offered, but it's the first sniff that Garcia has received this offseason.
Insight: Garcia played well with Tampa last year, but the Buccaneers chose to move on. There is only so much a 39-year-old can do and with the Raiders he'd be backing up JaMarcus Russell. (
1/27/2009 7:35:00 AM
Description: The Tampa Tribune reports that Garcia says he's open to returning to the Bucs in 2009. The veteran is an unrestricted free agent.
Insight: Garcia's relationship with the team was contentious leading up to the 2008 season, and his strained relationship with former coach Jon Gruden might have led to his early-season benching. Tampa now has a new coach and general manager, though, so we'll have to see what they want to do. Expect Garcia to be somewhere next year, though the Bucs would certainly provide him the best chance to begin the season as a starter. (
12/26/2008 11:18:00 PM
Description: Garcia was able to practice this week and is probable for the Week 17 game against the Raiders. Tampa Bay is playing for their playoff lives so expect Garcia to start.
Insight: Garcia has been posting some nice statistical games in the last part of the season, and his team is playing for something so consider him a decent No. 2 option at QB. (
Steady12/21/2008 6:44:00 PM
Description: Garcia helped the Buccaneers get back into the game with a TD pass and run in the third quarter, but his interception that was run back for a TD in the fourth quarter ended the game (and maybe the team's season).
Insight: Garcia was picked off more than once for the first time this season. He finished with 232 yards, a TD, and two interceptions. Garcia also led the Bucs with 45 yards rushing. (

Description: Jeff Garcia is officially active for today's game. (
12/21/2008 11:51:00 AM
Description: NFL Network's Scott Hanson reports that Jeff Garcia will start today. That certainly helps his value, but he still carries some risk because of the injured calf that made him questionable in the first place. (
12/21/2008 10:28:00 AM
Description: The Bucs look ready to wait until the last minute to decide on whether Jeff Garcia will start today. The fact that his calf hasn't improved to the point where they feel comfortable making that call earlier can't be a good sign. It's particularly worrisome for a quarterback who relies so heavily on his mobility. Garcia is extremely risky today, at best. (
