Name  Derrick Ward
Born  8/30/1980
Height  5-11
Weight  228
College  Ottawa (KS)

Description: Ward's 35-yard touchdown run in the win over Jacksonville was his fourth of the season and third from more than 30 yards out.
Insight: Ward was cut by the Bucs at the end of camp but clearly showed in limited duty with the Texans that he's not done. Although he turned 30 just before the start of the season, Ward has just 506 career carries behind him. We should probably expect him to sign elsewhere with Houston due to get Ben Tate back, and a new team could offer a larger role. (RapidDraft.com)

Description: Ward capitalized on Arian Foster's team-imposed punishment Sunday by putting up 80 yards and a touchdown on 12 carries.
Insight: The Bucs deemed Ward not worth keeping at the end of camp, but he looked better than that on Sunday. Kareem Huggins, meanwhile, has yet to get on the field this year. (RapidDraft.com)

Description: Ward signed with the Texans on Saturday, four days after being released by Tampa.
Insight: Houston has suffered a rash of injuries in an already somewhat unsettled backfield. Ward's lack of impact with the Bucs makes him seem more likely to provide insurance than production for the Texans. (RapidDraft.com)

Insight: Steve Slaton and Jeremiah Johnson are both nursing toe injuries, so Ward is nothing but depth for now. Arian Foster falls into a great situation as the only viable running back on the team right now, so expect him to get 20+ carries Week One.

Description: According to a league source, free agent RB Derrick Ward is expected to visit the Texans Friday. SOURCE: PRO FOOTBALL TALK
Insight: The running back situation behind Arian Foster is a mess with Steve Slaton's (turf toe) status for Week One unknown and Jeremiah Johnson (dislocated toe) out indefinitely. Ward could be a decent change-of-pace back, but the team would be in trouble if he had to start. The Seahawks reportedly have some interest as well.

Description: Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post Dispacth reports "it doesn't look like" the Rams will be interested in Ward.
Insight: Ward may be able to latch on somewhere as a backup, but his fantasy impact is likely to be minimal. (RapidDraft.com)
8/31/2010 2:05:00 PM
Description: The Buccaneers have released Ward.
Insight: Ward had been a big disappointment after signing a four-year, $17 million deal with Tampa Bay prior to last season. Kareem Huggins will serve as Cadillac Williams' primary backup. (Rapid Draft.com)

Description: The Buccaneers have released RB Derrick Ward. SOURCE: USA TODAY
Insight: This shouldn't come as much of a surprise considering how bad Ward looked in the preseason and having gotten off on the wrong foot with the coaching staff in OTAs. He was released after just one year. The coaching staff has high hopes for Kareem Huggins, despite a poor performance last weekend. He will be the team's change-of-pace back and could push Cadillac Williams for carries this year.

Description: The St. Petersburg Times reports Ward (head) is expected to play in Saturday's preseason game after being cleared.
Insight: Ward has been bypassed on Tampa Bay's RB depth chart by Kareem Huggins, and could be cut if he doesn't have a good showing on Saturday. (Rapid Draft.com)

Description: There is belief that Buccaneers RB Derrick Ward may be in danger of not making the team this year. SOURCE: TAMPA TRIBUNE
Insight: Ward rushed for 20 yards on 12 carries and didn't really do anything to make himself stick out last weekend. Kareem Huggins, who has been the talk of training camp, looked really good. So did Cadillac Williams. If Huggins continues to shine, he could allow the Bucs to trade or release Ward outright. He didn't get on the staff's good side when he reportedly missed some OTAs because of "dental issues."
8/16/2010 2:39:00 PM
Description: The Tampa Tribune suggests there's a chance Ward will not make the Buccaneers' final roster.
Insight: Ward is in danger of falling behing Kareem Huggins on Tampa Bay's RB depth chart, and the team certainly won't want to pay $3.25 million this season for a third-string running back. He could be traded or released before too long if there's any truth to this. (Rapid Draft.com)
8/6/2010 9:21:00 PM
Description: The St. Petersburg Times reports Ward is looking to show that 2009 was an abberation.
Insight: Ward had just 409 yards in his first season with Tampa Bay last season after topping 1,000 yards in 2008 with the Giants. If he can turn things around, he could take carries away from Cadillac Williams. (Rapid Draft.com)
6/8/2010 12:04:00 PM
Description: The St. Petersburg Times reports Ward returned to the Buccaneers on Monday after missing much of OTAs to take care of a dental situation.
Insight: The team was unhappy he missed time, but the issue does not seem serious. Ward will look to improve on a disappointing 2009 season. (SportsBuff.com)
5/18/2010 2:30:00 PM
Description: Pewter Report.com reports Ward insists is was the losing he was frustrated with in 2009 and not his reduced role behing Carnell Williams.
Insight: Ward signed a pretty lucrative contract with Tampa Bay prior to last season, and did say he was "a little disappointed" in his lack of playing time last season. Given Williams' history of knee problems, he could step into a primary role at some point this season. (SportsBuff.com)
2/18/2010 3:40:00 PM
Description: Ira Kaufman of the Tampa Tribune speculates that Ward will take over as the Buccaneers' feature back next season.
Insight: Kaufman is probably thinking about the team's financial obligations to Ward with this, but Cadillac Williams clearly outplayed him in 2009. The two will probably split touches again next season, barring something unforeseen. (SportsBuff.com)
1/1/2010 8:19:00 PM
Description: Ward (knee) is listed as questionable for Week 17.
Insight: Ward didn't practice on Friday and seems to be a poor bet to play this week. Expect Carnell Williams to get the call. (SportsBuff.com)
12/30/2009 10:14:00 AM
Description: According to Pewter Report, Ward took himself out of Week 16 against New Orleans due to knee problems.
Insight: Ward's status for Week 17 against Atlanta is unknown at this point, but he is not a strong fantasy option even if he is able to play. (SportsBuff.com)
12/26/2009 11:46:00 AM
Description: Ward (knee) is listed as questionable for this week's game.
Insight: He was put on the injury report late and his availability for the game is in doubt. If he can't go, the Cadillac Williams will see a much bigger workload. (SportsBuff.com)
12/24/2009 2:08:00 PM
Description: According to the Tampa Tribune, the Buccaneers plan to use Ward more in the final two games of the regular season.
Insight: Ward had 19 carries last week, which was his season-high. But splitting time with Cadillac Williams limits his fantasy upside, and hopefully you're not relying upon any Tampa Bay player at this stage. (SportsBuff.com)
12/21/2009 11:09:00 AM
Description: Ward had 19 carries for 67 yards and one catch for six yards in Tampa Bay's win over Seattle on Sunday.
Insight: Ward led the team in carries and rushing yards in the game, for what that's worth. He still has little fantasy value and you most likely aren't using him if your still alive in your league. (SportsBuff.com)
