Description: Atlanta has reached a three-year deal with return specialist Devin Hester. SOURCE: Adam Schefter, ESPN
Insight: The 31-year-old returned 52 kickoffs for an average of 27.6 yards in 2013. He also totaled 256 yards and one touchdown as a punt returner last season (18 attempts). A former receiver and defensive back, Hester was used exclusively on special teams last season.

Description: The Bears have decided not to pursue Devin Hester in free agency. SOURCE: NFL Network
Insight: Hester never cut it as a receiver and it looks like he's going to be used exclusively on special teams wherever he ends up. Despite being arguably the greatest return man in NFL history, Hester isn't a fantasy option.
4/8/2013 11:25:00 AM
Description: Bears wideout Devin Hester will apparently return to his role as a return specialist, according to the Chicago Sun-Times report.
Insight: Hester had 23 catches for 242 yards and a touchdown last season and even at his best was never better than a No. 3 fantasy wideout. He has returned five kickoffs and 12 punts for touchdowns in his career.
12/31/2012 3:45:00 PM
Description: Bears wideout Devin Hester is pondering retirement, according to the Chicago Tribune.
Insight: When asked if football is still as fun for him as it used to be, Hester said, "It's not." If this is it for the 30-year-old, he'll go down as one of the finest return men in league history. Hester's 13 punt return touchdowns are a league record.
12/2/2012 12:20:00 PM
Description: Chicago Bears receiver Devin Hester is inactive for Sunday's game against Seattle.
Insight: Even in leagues with return yardage, Hester is not touching the ball enough to produce positive fantasy value.
9/29/2012 12:28:00 PM
Description: Chicago Bears receiver Devin Hester has been targeted just five times in three games, catching two for 27 yards.
Insight: Even in leagues with return yardage, Hester is not touching the ball enough to produce positive fantasy value.
9/10/2012 12:00:00 PM
Description: Chicago Bears receiver Devin Hester was targeted just two times all Sunday afternoon as quarterback Jay Cutler looked primarily to his old friend Brandon Marshall (15 tagets).
Insight: Hester had one punt return (23 yards) and two kickoff returns for a total of five touches. That's simply not enough to stay fantasy-worthy. We suspect he'll get more action than this, but we worry whether he can be a fantasy starter in any league which doesn't include return yards.
6/6/2012 11:50:00 AM
Description: Chicago Bears receiver Devin Hester doesn't think he'll be doing a lot of punt and kickoffs this season.
Insight: "I think every now and then, I'm going to do kickoffs," said Hester "It will depend on how the game is going." Sounds like more passes headed his way than kicks, though obviously he'll be the No. 2 receiver behind Brandon Marshall. Adjust your projections accordingly.
5/13/2012 1:28:00 PM
Description: The latest reports are that Bears receiver Devin Hester will return both kicks and punts in 2012. There had been talk that recently acquired Eric Weems and Devin Thomas would be in that role.
Insight: If Hester is returning every kick, it's going to be at the expense of his receiving opportunities. This news could mean that rookie Alshon Jeffrey and Earl Bennett will see an increased role in the receiving game.
4/10/2012 7:32:00 PM
Description: With Devin Thomas and Eric Weems now in the fold for Chicago, three-time Pro Bowler Devin Hester might not be used as a kick returner for the Bears next season.
Insight: This move would actually help Hester's fantasy value. The last time Hester split kickoff duties back in 2009, he was able to focus more on receiving and the result was a career high 57 catches for 757 yards. Keep in mind though, Brandon Marshall will still be getting the most targets.

Description: According to Bears OC Mike Martz, WR Devin Hester "definitely" has No. 1 receiver ability. SOURCE: CHICAGO SUN-TIMES
Insight: Martz could have done a great job as an agent with his ability to talk up less-than-stellar talent in the NFL. We don't see much improvement regarding Hester's fantasy value, despite how much Martz pumps him up this year.
2/2/2011 10:01:00 AM
Description: CSN reports the Bears will look to bring in a veteran WR to usurp Hester or Johnny Knox in the starting lineup.
Insight: This would give Jay Cutler a needed go-to-guy. Roy Williams, Braylon Edwards and even Plaxico Burress could be among the possible options. (
11/19/2010 10:02:00 AM
Description: Hester had four catches for 41 yards on Thursday night against the Dolphins.
Insight: Hester is not a solid fantasy option heading into Week 12 against the Eagles. (
11/16/2010 11:03:00 PM
Description: Ken Lavicka of ESPN 760 in Miami reports, via Twitter, that Hester (shoulder) was limited in Tuesday's practice.
Insight: Hester does not appear to be in danger of missing Thursday night's game against the Dolphins. (
11/15/2010 11:01:00 AM
Description: Hester had four catches for 38 yards and a touchdown against the Vikings on Sunday.
Insight: It was nice to see Hester score a touchdown, but he is still not a strong fantasy option. (
11/3/2010 10:02:00 AM
Description: The Chicago Tribune reports the Bears have scaled back Hester's snaps at wide receiver recently to "keep him fresh" for punt return duties.
Insight: Hester is on pace for just 42 receptions this season, but he is probably still worth owning in deeper fantasy leagues. (
10/12/2010 1:02:00 PM
Description: The Chicago Tribune reports Hester said his role in the Bears' offense will be scaled back in order to keep him fresh for the return game.
Insight: This is not great news for Hester's fantasy value going forward, but could be beneficial for Earl Bennett and possibly Devin Aromashodu. (
9/28/2010 10:04:00 AM
Description: Hester had one reception for 16 yards along with a 62-yard punt return touchdown in the Bears' win over the Packers on Monday night.
Insight: Hester should be owned in all 12-team leagues, but don't expect a lot of consistent fantasy value. (
9/20/2010 11:05:00 AM
Description: Hester had four receptions for 77 yards and a touchdown against the Cowboys on Sunday.
Insight: Hester should be one of Jay Cutler's top targets, but is not likely to become consistent enough to be an every week fantasy starter.(
9/15/2010 2:33:00 PM
Description: Bears QB Jay Cutler blamed WR Devin Hester's lack of involvement in Week One on the fact that Hester wasn't open against the Lions. SOURCE: TWITTER
Insight: If Hester's one target is a sign of things to come, he is not going to be that great of a fantasy option, despite being a starter. He is only valued in larger leagues and even that might be a stretch.
