(Sports Network) - The reigning Super Bowl champion Baltimore Ravens shoot for their third consecutive preseason win when they host Cam Newton and the Carolina Panthers at M&T Bank Stadium on Thursday.
The Ravens rallied to score 20 points in the fourth quarter, capped with a 78- yard punt return by Asa Jackson, as they defeated the Atlanta Falcons, 27-23, last week.
Backup quarterback Tyrod Taylor went 5-for-9 for 83 yards with a pair of touchdowns and an interception, while starter Joe Flacco was 7-for-9 for 118 yards with one touchdown and one interception for the Ravens, who also won their preseason opener against the Buccaneers, 44-16.
Torrey Smith had two catches for a game-high 85 yards and a touchdown against the Falcons. Aaron Mellette and Tandon Doss each had one reception, but both of their catches resulted in a touchdown.
"When you play you try to win," Ravens coach John Harbaugh said. "That's why they keep score. So I'm happy about that. But there are things you can correct and they have to get done if we're going to be the team that we hope to be."
The Panthers, meanwhile, stumbled in Philadelphia last week, falling to Michael Vick and the Eagles 14-9.
Newton struggled under center for Carolina, connecting on just 8-of-17 passes for 112 yards.
DeAngelo Williams carried the ball 12 times for 39 yards for the Panthers, who opened their preseason slate with a win over Chicago.
"It's a big deal any time you take the field," said Panthers tight end Greg Olsen. "You want to play well and you want to win. But at the same time, it's a learning experience against teams you haven't really been game-planning for. This is the time that you want to find out what your weaknesses are so you can correct them. That's what the preseason is all about."
The Panthers and Ravens will be meeting for the fifth time in the preseason with Carolina holding a 3-1 advantage.
