NFL Preseason Preview - Cleveland (2-0) at Indianapolis (1-1)

(Sports Network) - Armed with the official title of starting quarterback, Brandon Weeden will lead the Cleveland Browns into Indianapolis to face off with fellow second-year signal caller Andrew Luck and the Colts in preseason action.

Browns rookie coach Rob Chudzinski made it official on Tuesday, saying Weeden had earned the position ahead of veteran Jason Campbell.

"I've always believed in guys earning things," said Chudzinski. "He's gone out and he's earned it. He's seized the opportunity and I'm very pleased."

Weeden, who started 15 games last year as a rookie, has had two very good outings this preseason. He has completed 18-of-25 passes for 229 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions, leading the offense to three TDs and two field goals in six series.

"I'm excited moving forward, it's very rewarding," said Weeden on Tuesday after being informed of the decision on Monday night.

Weeden connected on 8-of-12 passes for 117 yards and two touchdowns as Cleveland cruised to a 24-6 win over the Detroit Lions in the second full week of preseason action.

Jordan Cameron caught three passes for 42 yards and two touchdowns and Brandon Jackson hauled in three passes for 39 yards and a touchdown for the Browns, who finished 5-11 last season.

Campbell completed 12- of-14 passes for 106 yards and a touchdown and running back Trent Richardson rushed for 33 yards on six carries in the victory.

Rookie linebacker Barkevious Mingo, the sixth overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, was forced to leave the game and was eventually hospitalized with a bruised lung. Additionally, Browns' running back Dion Lewis suffered a broken fibula.

Cleveland expects Mingo to return to practice in a week or two, but Chudzinski has offered no real timeline.

"We're just waiting. Everybody's body heals differently and at a different rate," the coach said.

As for the Colts, they are coming off their first preseason win, a 20-12 victory over the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium.

Luck tossed a pair of touchdown passes in that one and the Indianapolis defense didn't allow any.

Luck played four series total, leading the Colts to scores on each of his last three. He ended 9-of-13 for 107 yards, with Reggie Wayne and T.Y. Hilton each hauling in a touchdown.
