NFL Game Summary - Tennessee at Oakland|
(Sunday, November 24th)
Final Score: Tennessee 23, Oakland 19
Oakland, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Ryan Fitzpatrick found Kendall Wright for a
10-yard touchdown in the final 10 seconds of the fourth quarter,
lifting Tennessee to a 23-19 victory over Oakland on Sunday.
Fitzpatrick finished with 320 yards and another score to Justin Hunter on
30-of-42 completions for the Titans (5-6), who snapped a two-game slide.
Hunter led all receivers with 109 yards on six catches, with Wright adding 103
yards on six grabs.
Tennessee boasted a 300-yard passer and a pair of 100-yard receivers for the
first time since Dec. 19, 2004 in a 40-35 loss to the Raiders.
Chris Johnson contributed 73 yards on 20 carries, and Rob Bironas made all of
his three field-goal tries.
Matt McGloin completed 19-of-32 passes for 260 yards, one score and an
interception for the Raiders (4-7), who have dropped three of four.
"Up and down day, but we're going to have days like that," said McGloin. "I
thought we missed on a couple opportunities offensively, but we'll go back to
the drawing board."
Rod Streater compiled 93 yards on five catches, Marcel Reece was responsible
for Oakland's lone touchdown, and Sebastian Janikowski booted four field goals
Bironas clicked from 23 yards away and the Titans led 16-12 with 8:52 left in
The Raiders then took the lead at 19-16, as McGloin lofted a ball down
the left sideline for Reece, who stepped into the end zone for a 27-yard
score with 6:10 on the clock. It capped a swift 75-yard, 5-play series.
Fitzpatrick led his team from their own 20 to the Raiders' 10-yard line with
27 seconds on the clock thanks to a 9-yard pass to Hunter on 3rd-and-6.
After two incompletions, he connected with Wright on 3rd-and-goal and
Tennessee led 23-19 with 10 seconds remaining. Replay showed that Hunter's
knee touched down on the one, but the score was upheld since it was ruled he
was not down by contact before falling into the end zone.
"That would have been a big, big loss for us in terms of what the rest of the
season was going to look like," Fitzpatrick said. "We knew this was a 'gotta-
have-it' drive at the end of the game and the guys really stepped up."
Oakland ran two plays before time ran out.
"When you've got a lead, we believe it's our responsibility defensively to go
out there and protect the lead and hold them," Raiders head coach Dennis Allen
remarked. "We weren't able to do that, so we'll learn from it."
Janikowski's 52-yarder finished off Oakland's opening drive, and Bironas ended
Tennessee's first possession with a 33-yard make.
He finished off the Titans' next series with a 22-yarder for a 6-3 game early
in the second quarter.
A 48-yard make by Janikowski evened the score once again, and his 24-yarder
gave the Raiders a 9-6 edge at halftime.
Hunter's 54-yard catch-and-run on the visitors' first drive of the second half
made it 13-9 for Tennessee, and though Janikowski missed a 48-yard attempt
wide right, he recovered to hit from 42 yards away and it was 13-12 heading to
Tennessee has won three in a row over Oakland and seven of 10 since relocating
from Houston in 1997 ... Janikowski connected on at least four field goals for
the second time this season and for the 18th time in his career ... The Titans
connected on 10-of-18 third downs and held the Raiders to just 3-of-10
efficiency ... Oakland was held to 93 yards rushing.
