NFL Game Summary - NY Jets at Baltimore|
(Sunday, November 24th)
Final Score: Baltimore 19, NY Jets 3
Baltimore, MD (SportsNetwork.com) - On a windy Sunday afternoon at M&T Bank
Stadium, a kicker was the star of the game.
Justin Tucker kicked four field goals as the Baltimore Ravens topped the
offensively challenged New York Jets, 19-3.
Joe Flacco completed 17-of-26 passes for 273 yards, 66 coming on a touchdown
catch by Jacoby Jones that put Baltimore (5-6) up 16 late in the third
quarter. Flacco also threw a 60-yard pass to Torrey Smith.
New York rookie Geno Smith struggled mightily, connecting only 9-of-22 passes
and finishing with a paltry 127 yards and two interceptions.
"I've got to pick it up. I've got to find a way to spark the offense somehow,
some way," Smith said.
The Jets (5-6), who mustered only 12 first downs and 220 yards on offense,
have lost two straight for the first time this season. They were the first
team in NFL history to alternate wins and losses through the first 10 games.
"Our defense played really well. All three levels played exceptionally well,"
said Baltimore coach John Harbaugh.
This game had the makings of a being a blowout in the first half.
Baltimore reached the red zone four times, once off a turnover, but led only
9-3 at the break.
Aside from one drive that resulted in a Nick Folk game-opening field goal, New
York's offense was completely anemic.
Late in the first quarter, Baltimore nearly scored but former Raven Ed Reed
drilled Jones, dislodging a would-be TD catch. Tucker kicked a 30-yard field
goal on the next play to tie the game.
The Jets punted to open the second quarter, pinning Baltimore deep in its own
territory. Flacco, however, dropped in a perfect downfield strike along the
right sideline to Smith. The drive stalled at the New York 8-yard line and
Tucker nailed a 26-yarder.
Baltimore quickly got the ball back in excellent field position. The Jets
snapped the ball into Greg Salas when the wide receiver was in motion, forcing
a fumble that was recovered by Terrell Suggs at the New York 18.
The Ravens came away with no points because Flacco threw an interception two
plays later. Antonio Cromartie, who was beaten by Smith on the previous
Baltimore drive, made the pick.
After brief possession for the Jets, Tucker capped off another red zone trip
with a 33-yarder following the two-minute warning.
Tucker was called on again and drilled a 53-yarder before Reed got beat on the
deep pass to Jones.
Smith finally strung together a series of completions in the fourth quarter,
but Corey Graham's second interception, this one coming in the end zone,
derailed the drive.
The Ravens have recorded at least one sack in 22 straight games, tying a
franchise record (2000-01) ... The Jets have lost eight straight meetings with
the Ravens ... Baltimore defensive tackle Haloti Ngata played Sunday after
sitting out last week's contest at Chicago with a knee injury.
