Seattle, WA (Sports Network) - Marshawn Lynch ran for 115 yards and a score as
the Seattle Seahawks took a 30-13 win over the St. Louis Rams.
The Seahawks (6-7) kept their fledgling playoff hopes alive with their fourth
win in their past five games, but are still two wins back of the current wild
If Seattle is to have any hope of getting into the postseason, it will have to
win next week as it plays in Chicago against the Bears, who are currently one
game up on the Seahawks.
"We are on track to find ourselves, that's what's important," Seahawks head
coach Pete Carroll said. "There is a tremendous challenge to find consistency
in this league."
The Rams (2-11), meanwhile, have fallen into a tie at the bottom of the NFC
with the Vikings as they have dropped their past four games.
Tarvaris Jackson passed for 224 yards and a touchdown on 21-of-32 attempts
while Doug Baldwin caught seven passes for 93 yards and a score and his block
of a St. Louis punt set up the first touchdown for Seattle, which has won 13
of 14 over St. Louis.
Sam Bradford, who started after sitting out last week's game with a lingering
ankle injury, went just 12-of-29 with 193 yards and an interception while
Steven Jackson had a touchdown and 63 yards on 20 carries for St. Louis, which
fell to 1-6 on the road.
Seattle had to punt on its first possession and forced St. Louis to punt on
its first touch, but Baldwin came flying around the right corner and blocked
the punt, with Michael Robinson picking it up and taking it into the end zone
from 17 yards out for a 7-0 lead five minutes in.
After a three-and-out from the Rams, the Seahawks went on a 14-play drive that
covered 60 yards and was capped on a Steven Hauschka 42-yard field goal for a
Steven Jackson had an 11-yard carry on the first play of the Rams' next touch
and totaled 30 yards on an 11-play, 52-yard march that saw Josh Brown boot a
46-yarder to make it a 10-3 game four minutes into the second.
Later in the second, Seattle was driving and got to the St. Louis 27, but
Tarvaris Jackson fumbled and St. Louis recovered.
However, the Rams were unable to move the ball and a pair of punts saw the
game go into halftime with the Seahawks up by seven.
Bradford was picked off on the first offensive play of the second half and
that led to a 23-yard field goal from Hauschka for a 13-3 lead.
After holding the Rams to a three-and-out, Seattle got into scoring position,
but Hauschka kicked his 38-yard attempt wide right and St. Louis took over at
its own 28.
A screen pass to the right saw Steven Jackson use his blockers to take the
ball 50 yards before being pushed out of bounds. The Rams then got down to the
one-yard line, but an intentional grounding call pushed the ball back 10 yards
and the next pass fell incomplete. Brown then hit a 29-yard field goal to make
it a one-score game with 1:49 to play.
However, Leon Washington returned the kickoff to midfield. Four plays later,
Jackson hit Baldwin near the 10 and he stretched over the goal line on a 29-
yard score for a 20-6 lead with six seconds left in the third.
St. Louis was again unable to move the ball and Hauschka hit a 48-yard field
goal with 8:27 to play for a 23-6 lead.
St. Louis finally got into the end zone on its next touch as a 10-play, 76-
yard drive was capped on a one-yard run by Jackson with 4:39 left.
However, the onsides kick went to Seattle as Brown touched the ball before it
went 10 yards and Lynch sealed the victory with a 16-yard score.
"Obviously a disappointing loss," Rams head coach Steve Spagnuolo said. "We
were looking to play good fundamental football and then find a way to win it
at the end. We clearly did not do that."
