Colts owner Irsay charged with two misdemeanors
Noblesville, IN (SportsNetwork.com) - Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay was charged Friday with a pair of misdemeanors related to his March arrest for impaired driving.
According to several media reports, Irsay was formally charged in Hamilton Superior Court just before the close of business for the Memorial Day holiday weekend. He was charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated and operating a vehicle with a controlled substance in the body, according to the Indianapolis Star.
Irsay had faced four felony counts of possession of controlled substances, but those were not included in the formal charges on Friday.
He has a June 19 hearing and could face up to 60 days in jail and a $500 fine for each count.
A Carmel (Ind.) police release said Irsay was stopped at 11:41 p.m. on March 16 after driving at a slow rate of speed and failing to signal a turn. After failing several field sobriety tests, Irsay was taken into custody.
Multiple prescription drugs were found in pill bottles during an inventory search of the vehicle. The drugs were not associated with any of the prescription bottles found.
