NBA Preview from The Sports Network

Wednesday, April 2nd (All times Eastern)

New Orleans Pelicans (32-42) at Denver Nuggets (32-42), 9 p.m.

( - Two teams who won't make the playoffs in the Western Conference jump it up Wednesday night at the Pepsi Center when the New Orleans Pelicans visit the Denver Nuggets.

The Nuggets have lost four in a row, including two straight at home.

On Monday, the Nuggets fell at home to the Memphis Grizzlies, 94-92.

Timofey Mozgov scored a season-high 23 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Kenneth Faried scored 17 points for the Nuggets, while Randy Foye chipped in 13 and Aaron Brooks scored 10 off the bench.

"I thought our guys fought hard. We never got to a point where we could take advantage of the fact that they played last night [and] they got in late. We were never able to get to where we got clean rebounds and really be able to get out and push it and force the tempo," said Nuggets coach Brian Shaw.

Denver was down three and, with just over four seconds left, Mozgov missed a 3-pointer. Mozgov got the rebound but inexplicably dunked it with just over one second left.

Memphis' Courtney Lee was quickly fouled on the inbounds pass and made the first free throw before intentionally missing the second. On the second, it appeared the ball failed to hit the rim, but the play went on and the clock expired and Memphis held on.

After a brief protest from Shaw following the game, both teams returned to the locker room.

The Pelicans have dropped two straight after a five-game winning streak. New Orleans will begin a three-game western road trip and the end of the season won't be easy for the Pelicans. Their last six are against playoff-bound teams in the Western Conference.

On Monday, the Pelicans fell at home to the Sacramento Kings, 102-97.

Anthony Davis totaled 22 points, eight rebounds, four assists and four blocks for the Pelicans, who have lost two straight. Anthony Morrow and Tyreke Evans scored 23 and 15 points, respectively in defeat.

"We just did not have a great level of sustained effort," Pelicans head coach Monty Williams said.

The Pelicans out-shot the Kings from the field and forced 19 Sacramento turnovers, which New Orleans turned into 30 points. Problem was, the Kings trounced the Pelicans on the glass, winning the battle of the boards by a 47-30 margin.

The Pelicans have won two of three against the Nuggets this season with both wins at the Smoothie King Center. The Nuggets have taken four in a row and seven of the last nine as the host in this series.
