Miami, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - The Miami Heat didn't have Dwyane Wade. Good
thing they rarely have trouble with the Atlanta Hawks these days.
Chris Bosh scored 19 points and Mario Chalmers keyed a big third-quarter run
Tuesday night as the Heat topped the Hawks for the eighth straight time with a
Wade, who has battled knee injuries, was held out for precautionary reasons
and the Heat spread the scoring out to extend their overall winning streak to
Ray Allen scored 17 points off the bench, Chalmers added 14 and LeBron James
Mike Scott had 15 points and 10 rebounds off the bench for the Hawks, who had
a two-game winning streak snapped. Al Horford and Pero Antic added 12 points
apiece in Atlanta's 14th loss in its last 16 games against Miami.
"I give Miami and their defense a lot of credit. Their activity can make it
difficult on you offensively," Hawks head coach Mike Budenholzer said.
Chalmers scored nine straight points during a 23-6 run in the third quarter
that turned a two-point deficit into a 15-point lead in under 5 1/2 minutes.
James Jones hit a pair of 3-pointers in the run but Chalmers made the biggest
splash. After completing a three-point play, he hit consecutive 3s to help the
Heat build their 15-point lead.
It was 78-68 going into the fourth quarter and the Hawks never got closer than
nine after that.
"It's very encouraging our reserves were able to give us a spark," Heat head
coach Erik Spoelstra said.
The Heat are at Orlando on Wednesday night for the first game of a home-and-
home. The teams will play in Miami on Saturday night.
The Hawks start a home-and-home against the Pistons on Wednesday in Atlanta.
The teams will play in Detroit on Friday
Scott hit a jumper before the first-quarter buzzer to give the Hawks a 25-24
James had all 10 of his first-half points in the second quarter, including six
during a 13-2 burst that gave the Heat a five-point lead. Bosh scored five of
his 16 first-half points in the run, capping it with a 3-pointer to make it
43-38. Miami led 46-43 at halftime.
Wade said he's day-to-day ... Atlanta's last win in the series came Jan. 2,
2012, in Miami ... The Heat shot 50.6 percent, including 10-of-21 on 3s, and
the Hawks shot 45.8 percent (11-for-24 on 3s) ... The Heat are 6-1 at home.
