Pelicans lose Davis in win over Knicks

New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Ryan Anderson poured in a game-high 31 points on 7-of-11 shooting from beyond the arc to lead the New Orleans Pelicans to a 103-99 win over the New York Knicks.

Although the Pelicans came away with a win, they lost one of their top performers as center Anthony Davis suffered a non-displaced fracture in his left hand. Davis suffered the injury in the first quarter. The former No. 1 pick went to the Pelicans' bench before heading back to the locker room for further evaluation.

A timetable for his return has not been determined. Davis was off to a terrific start in his second season, leading the Pelicans with 19.6 points, 10.6 rebounds and a 3.9 blocks per contest.

Tyreke Evans added 24 points and seven assists and Jrue Holiday finished with 11 points and nine assists for New Orleans, which has won five of its last seven games.

Carmelo Anthony scored 23 points to go with 10 rebounds and Tim Hardaway Jr. poured in a career-high 21 points for the Knicks, losers in nine straight.

Hardaway's 3-pointer with 6:24 left put the Knicks up 93-88, but a 10-0 run from the Pelicans, capped with a pair of Evans' free throws, put the Pelicans ahead for good.

Hardaway was fouled attempting a 3, and knocked down the subsequent free throws to make it 98-96 with 2 1/2 minutes left. Evans, though, knocked down a runner and Eric Gordon added a layup to push the lead to 102-96.

Anthony cut the Knicks' deficit in half with his triple from the top of the key. Gordon then turned it over and Anthony fired another deep 3-ball with 18 seconds left, but this one rimmed out and Evans split a pair of free throws at the other end to seal the win.

New York led 20-16 after an ugly first quarter. The Pelicans shot just 23.8 percent (5-for-21) in the frame.

The Knicks trailed 34-30 with 5:10 left in the first half, but closed the frame on a 19-10 run to take a 49-44 into the break.

New Orleans outscored the Knicks 32-25 in the third to go up 76--74 entering the final frame.

Game Notes

The Pelicans outscored the Knicks 48-30 in the paint, but were outrebounded by a 42-32 margin ... Knicks center Andrea Bargnani scored 17 points, while Raymond Felton and J.R. Smith added 12 points apiece.
