Lakers' Nash facing extended absence
El Segundo, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Los Angeles Lakers point guard Steve Nash will undergo an epidural to alleviate pain in his chronically injured back on Tuesday, a procedure that is expected to sideline the two-time league MVP for a minimum of two weeks.
Nash sat out the entire second half of the Lakers' 113-90 loss to Minnesota on Saturday and spent Monday visiting a back specialist, who diagnosed the 18- year veteran with nerve root irritation. He is slated to be reevaluated in approximately 10 days.
The 39-year-old Nash was limited to just 50 regular-season games during the 2012-13 campaign, his first with the Lakers, due to recurring hamstring problems that were related to the ongoing nerve issues in his back.
Nash has averaged only 6.7 points and 4.8 assists in six games thus far this season, while shooting a career-low 26.1 percent from the field.
