Bucks' Sanders out six weeks

Milwaukee, WI ( - Milwaukee Bucks center Larry Sanders will miss approximately six weeks after undergoing surgery to repair a torn ligament in his right thumb on Monday.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel was the first to report the news, with the team confirming Sanders' surgery and timetable later Monday.

Sanders was reportedly injured in an off-court altercation on Nov. 3. He was able to go through practice with a splint on his thumb, but hasn't seen action in a game since the Bucks faced Toronto one day before the incident.

The 6-foot-11 shot-blocking specialist from VCU was expected to become an impact player for the Bucks in his fourth season. Sanders averaged career- bests across the board last year, posting 9.8 points and 9.5 rebounds to go with 2.8 blocks per contest over 71 games.

Sanders, who inked a $44 million extension with the Bucks over the summer, was unhappy with his playing time in the early stages of the season and voiced his frustrations to coach Larry Drew. He was averaging just 2.7 points and 3.7 rebounds in 17 minutes per game prior to the injury.
