Pacers' Granger to miss first three weeks

Indianapolis, IN (SportsNetwork.com) - Indiana Pacers forward Danny Granger is expected to miss the first three weeks of the season as he continues to recover from a calf injury.

Granger suffered a left calf strain in a preseason game against Dallas on Oct. 16.

The Pacers said the decision to keep Granger sidelined is a "precautionary measure" to ensure that he will be physically ready to play.

Last season, Granger missed all but five games because of patellar tendinosis in his left knee. He averaged just 5.4 points and 1.8 rebounds in his abbreviated action in 2012-13.

The Pacers said the rehab process Granger will undergo during his inactivity is strictly related to the calf and not last year's knee issue.

Granger averaged 21.6 points and 5.4 rebounds for Indiana over a five-year span from 2007-12, including a career-best 25.8 points over 67 games during his lone All-Star season in 2008-09, when he was also named the NBA's Most Improved Player.

The reigning Central Division champion Pacers will tip off the upcoming season Tuesday against the Orlando Magic.
