Perhaps the purest point guard available in the draft this year, Augustin plays the position exactly the way it is meant to be, setting up teammates first and then looking for his own shot if necessary...Became the fifth player in Texas history to earn consensus First Team All-America honors and was named the winner of the Bob Cousy Award which recognizes the nation`s top point guard...Augustin led the Big 12 Conference in assists with just under six per game and was second in the league in scoring with his 19.2 ppg...One of 10 nominees for the Oscar Robertson Trophy and a candidate for both the Wooden Award and the Naismith Trophy as well...Honorable Mention All-America choice by the AP and a consensus Freshman All-American in 2006-07 as well...Despite playing just two years of college ball, his 452 assists over the course of 73 games places him fifth on UT`s all-time list...Augustin managed to supplement his assist total with 1,234 points, putting him 18th in school history...Has shown fearlessness in driving to the basket and taking hard hits, but if he`s not gunning for hard layups then he`s setting up beyond the arc, which says he still needs to develop and refine a mid-range attack...In being named First Team Academic All-America as a sophomore, Augustin not only demonstrated he has the mental ability to survive and thrive at the next level, he became just the 15th player in NCAA history to be named First Team All-America both as a basketball player and a scholar...Was a crucial piece in pushing the Longhorns deep into the NCAA Tournament each of the last two years.
