NOTES:
The Bojangles' Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway is the 11th race on the 2013 Sprint Cup Series schedule.

Nicknamed the track "Too Tough To Tame" and the "Lady In Black," Darlington Raceway was built as a 1.25-mile paved superspeedway in 1950. The track was remeasured to 1.375 miles in 1953 and then reconfigured to 1.366 miles following the spring race in 1970. Darlington was repaved in 1995 and again prior to the 2008 season.

Darlington has 25 degrees of banking in turns 1 and 2 and 23 degrees in turns 3 and 4. There is 6 degrees of banking on both the frontstretch and backstretch. The lengths of both straightaways are 1,229 feet.

This racetrack hosted the inaugural 500-mile race in NASCAR and the first on asphalt on Sept. 4, 1950, which was won by Johnny Mantz. The 2005 event marked the first one on a Saturday night there.

There have been 109 races in NASCAR's premier series held at Darlington. The series competed at this track twice each season from 1960-2004 and then once each year since 2005.

Richard Petty holds the record for most starts at Darlington with 65. Mark Martin's 46 starts at this track is the most among those drivers entered in this weekend's race.

David Pearson holds the record for most victories at Darlington with 10, followed by Dale Earnhardt with nine. Jeff Gordon's seven wins at this track is the most among active drivers.

Rick Hendrick has the most car owner wins at Darlington with 14. Jimmie Johnson's victory in the Southern 500 last year marked the 200th career win for Hendrick Motorsports. HMS became just the second team in Cup to reach the 200 win mark. Petty Enterprises holds the record with 268 victories.

Pearson also holds the record for most pole wins at Darlington with 12. Kasey Kahne's four poles at this track is the most among those drivers on this year's entry list for the Southern 500.

The race winner at Darlington has started from the pole 19 times, which is more than any other starting position there. However, no driver has won a race from that starting spot at this track since Dale Jarrett did it in 1997 (400- mile spring event).

Regan Smith is the only driver who is entered in this race that scored his first career Sprint Cup victory at Darlington. Smith won there on May 7, 2011.

Two drivers on the entry list earned their maiden pole wins at Darlington: Kurt Busch (Sept. 2, 2001) and Clint Bowyer (May 13, 2007).

Kyle Busch holds the record as the youngest driver to win a race at Darlington. Busch took the checkered flag there on May 10, 2008 when he was 23 years and 8 days old. When Harry Gant was 51 years, 7 months and 22 days old, he became the oldest driver to win at this track on Sept. 1, 1991.

The next race is the May 18 NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Jimmie Johnson won the event last year.
