Description: In one of the strangest finishes in recent memory, Marlins righthander Henderson Alvarez scored a rare walk-off no-hitter Sunday against Detroit.
Insight: The Marlins didn't score their first run until the bottom of the ninth when Giancarlo Stanton came around on a bases loaded wild pitch with two outs. Alvarez allowed just one walk in nine otherwise flawless innings (Miami also made one fielding error). It's the first no-hitter by a Marlin since Anibal Sanchez threw one in 2006.

Description: Marlins righthander Henderson Alvarez was dominant in seven innings of work Saturday against New York.
Insight: The 23-year-old fanned five batters without allowing a walk. Half of his victories this season have come against the Mets (2-0, 1.26 ERA in two starts).

Description: Marlins right-hander Henderson Alvarez left Monday's game against the Cubs with a tight right hamstring, according to Carrie Muskat of MLB.com.
Insight: Alvarez missed several months with a shoulder issue and has gone 2-3 with a 3.95 ERA (3.02 FIP) in 70 2/3 innings since returning.

Hot8/6/2013 10:32:00 PM
Description: Marlins right-hander Henderson Alvarez had his fourth straight strong outing Tuesday at Pittsburgh.
Insight: Alvarez gave up six hits and three earned runs with zero walks and six strikeouts over seven innings in a no decision. The right-hander gives up a lot of hits and doesn't strike many batters out so he's going to be walking a fine line in most starts, but at least he has avoided the homer problem he had last season (1.39 HR/9 2012, 0.00 HR/9 2013).

7/21/2013 7:28:00 PM
Description: Marlins right-hander Henderson Alvarez limited the Brewers to five hits over seven scoreless innings in a no decision Sunday.
Insight: Alvarez has allowed 27 hits in his first 24 2/3 innings this season, but he hasn't given up a homer and owns a 3.28 ERA. Alvarez gave up 29 homers in 187 1/3 innings last season with the Blue Jays.

7/1/2013 4:46:00 PM
Description: Marlins right-hander Henderson Alvarez (shoulder) will come off the DL and start Thursday against the Braves.
Insight: Alvarez has missed the entire season due to shoulder inflammation. He was included in the big Marlins-Blue Jays trade this offseason after going 9-14 with a 4.85 ERA and a 1.44 WHIP in 187 1/3 innings last season. Fantasy owners can ignore him.

Description: Marlins right-hander Henderson Alvarez (shoulder) is scheduled to throw 50-55 pitches in a simulated game Saturday, according to Joe Capozzi of the Palm Beach Post.

3/31/2013 11:01:00 AM
Description: Marlins starter Henderson Alvarez will open the season on the DL.
Insight: He's dealing with inflammation in his right shoulder. Alvarez got lit up in 31 starts for the Blue Jays in 2012 (4.85 ERA, .290 opponent batting average). We're not expecting him to fare much better in the equally competitive NL East.

8/27/2012 10:11:00 PM
Description: Toronto righthander Henderson Alvarez came out of Monday night's game in the fourth inning after injuring his left shin.
Insight: X-rays came back negative so it's just a bruise. Alvarez (7-11, 4.97 ERA) should be fine to make his next start Saturday against the Rays.

6/26/2012 4:30:00 PM
Description: Blue Jays starter Henderson Alvarez (elbow) will undergo an MRI Tuesday, according to Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca.
Insight: Alvarez left his start Monday against Boston with elbow pain after his 96th pitch of the night, though the pain dissipated 30 minutes later. Toronto has placed three pitchers -- Brandon Morrow, Kyle Drabek, Drew Hutchison -- on the disabled list in the last two weeks, though it doesn't look like Alvarez will need to join them after initial tests came back positive.

6/22/2012 5:48:00 PM
Description: Blue Jays starter Henderson Alvarez has had his start pushed back a day to Monday against Boston. He was slated to start Sunday against Miami.
Insight: Facing Miami would have been a lot better for the contact pitcher, but he'll have to go at Boston next Monday. The right-hander does have a 2-1 record and a 3.63 ERA in six road starts this season, but we wouldn't recommend starting him against the Red Sox. Alvarez has allowed four earned runs or more in five of his last six starts.

6/6/2012 6:58:00 PM
Description: Blue Jays starter Henderson Alvarez will start at U.S. Cellular Field against the White Sox Thursday. Alvarez is owned in just 13 percent of Yahoo! leagues.
Insight: Alvarez' ERA has risen by more than a run over his last three starts as he's given up 14 earned runs in 17 innings. However, the right-hander is 2-1 with a 2.20 ERA in four road starts this season after going 1-2 with a 2.42 ERA in four road starts last season, so he's someone to target as a streaming option tomorrow.

5/26/2012 7:24:00 PM
Description: Henderson Alvarez was ejected from Saturday's game against the Rangers after throwing behind Texas second baseman Ian Kinsler.
Insight: Alvarez had allowed three consecutive homers to Nelson Cruz, Yorvit Torrealba and Mitch Moreland prior to the ejection. Overall, the Rangers scored five runs (four earned) and collected nine hits off of Alvarez in 5.2 innings. It was the 22-year-old's second shaky outing in a row.

5/20/2012 4:23:00 PM
Description: Henderson Alvarez gave up six runs on nine hits in five innings against the Mets on Sunday.
Insight: Alvarez came into the game with a 2.62 ERA, but with 15 strikeouts in 55 innings and the fourth lowest swing-and-miss percentage in baseball at eight percent. There's just no way he can sustain an ERA in the twos with batters making that much contact against him.

5/5/2012 9:35:00 AM
Description: Blue Jays starter Henderson Alvarez tossed his first career shutout against the Angels on Friday night, scattering six hits in nine innings with three strikeouts.
Insight: The 22-year-old righty is 2-2 with a 2.83 ERA and 1.04 WHIP, with five quality starts in six turns, though six of the 13 runs he's allowed this season came in one start. If you remove that April 19 outing against the Rays, Alvarez' ERA drops to 1.80.
