Description: Astros outfielder Chris Carter is hitless in 10 previous at bats against Angels lefty Jason Vargas.
Insight: Carter leads Houston with eight homers and 18 RBI this season. Unfortunately, his batting average is hovering right around the Mendoza line (.212 in 33 games). Thursday would be a good day to leave Carter on the bench.

Description: A's first baseman Chris Carter isn't worth starting Sunday against Seattle. He's never gotten a hit in nine tries versus righthander Jason Vargas.
Insight: Carter is 1-for-9 with an astonishing seven strikeouts in his last two games. Make sure you bench him for today's series finale.

Description: Oakland first baseman Chris Carter is sitting out Friday night's series opener versus the Red Sox.
Insight: Carter (.274, 12 HR, 31 RBI) has driven in at least one run in each of his last five contests but he'll have to watch this one from the bench while Brandon Moss (.239, 14 HR, 30 RBI) fills in at first base.

Description: Athletics first baseman Chris Carter has belted six homers in 15 games since he was called up from the minors.
Insight: This is the third unheralded Oakland player to go on a tear when he joined the big league team this season. Brandon Inge hit four homers and drove in 16 RBIs in his first 10 games with the team and Brandon Moss hit 11 jacks in his first 27. Those players slowed up after their initial hot streaks and we expect Carter to do the same.
