Description: Yankees starter CC Sabathia had one bad inning Friday against the Red Sox and it resulted in his second loss.
Insight: Sabathia looked good for most of the game and had nine strikeouts, but he allowed solo and three-run homers in the top of the sixth to lose a 1-0 lead. Homers were one of Sabathia's issues last year and he has given up five in 19 innings already. Still, Friday's start was somewhat encouraging for Sabathia owners.

Description: Yankees starter CC Sabathia had an Opening Day to forget Tuesday at Houston.
Insight: Sabathia, who slimmed down in the offseason, allowed eight hits (two HRs) and six earned runs in six innings. Sabathia struggled to overcome diminished velocity last season and gave up a career-high 28 homers while posting a career-worst 4.78 ERA. His velocity sat in the high-80s Tuesday and he left the ball up in the zone far too often.

Insight: The big lefty is dealing with a strained hamstring. He'll finish the 2013 campaign with a 4.78 ERA, his highest in 13 major league seasons.
Cold8/30/2013 10:27:00 PM
Description: Yankees starter CC Sabathia, who gave up five earned over 5 2/3 innings Friday against the Orioles but managed to come away with a win, is 3-1 over his last four starts despite carrying a 6.17 ERA in that span.
Insight: New York has scored 8.25 runs per game in Sabathia's last four starts. The left-hander has had a disappointing season to say the least, going 12-11 with a 4.91 ERA.
Cold8/13/2013 10:56:00 PM
Description: New York starter CC Sabathia threw a quality start by definition Tuesday against the Angels, but it wasn't exactly his best work.
Insight: Sabathia allowed two earned runs (three total) on three hits but walked six over six innings. The left-hander has a 4.66 ERA and has allowed a career-high 26 homers in 166 innings this season.
Cold8/8/2013 9:44:00 AM
Description: While it wasn't as bad as some of his previous outings, New York starter CC Sabathia still didn't look like himself Wednesday in a no-decision against the White Sox.
Insight: Sabathia started off strong (opened with four scoreless innings) but the wheels began to fall off later in the game as the White Sox got to him for one run in the fifth and two more in the seventh. The lefthander is in the middle of the worst slump of his career with an 0-4 record in his last six starts (7.00 ERA over that span).
7/9/2013 9:49:00 PM
Description: Yankees starter CC Sabathia threw his second complete game of the season Tuesday against the Royals, but, like his first one of the year, he took the loss.
Insight: Sabathia gave up seven hits and three runs while striking out six and walking two, but the Yankees only scored one run off James Shields. The big lefty is 9-7 with a 3.99 ERA and a 1.20 WHIP this year, but his velocity has been improving and he could be in for a big second half.
7/4/2013 9:49:00 AM
Description: Yankees starter CC Sabathia picked up career win No. 200 Wednesday at Minnesota with seven innings of two-run ball. He gave up seven hits, walked three and struck out nine.
Insight: Sabathia is 9-6 despite carrying a 4.06 ERA. The lefty has dealt with diminished velocity this season, but his average fastball speed in June was one mph higher than May and nearly two mph higher than April. His average speed was up even more Wednesday, and he hit a 94 mph max. Fantasy owners should buy low.

Description: There's been a change of plans. Yankees lefthander CC Sabathia was supposed to start Saturday with David Phelps getting the ball for Friday's series opener in Baltimore. Instead, Sabathia will draw the start Friday with Phelps pitching on Saturday. SOURCE: Dan Connolly, Baltimore Sun
Insight: A classic mix-up. Apparently the Yankees goofed on their media guide and the plan had always been for Sabathia to start Friday and Phelps to go on Saturday. A notorious Orioles-killer, Sabathia is 17-4 lifetime against the O's including 1-0 already this season.
6/5/2013 7:08:00 PM
Description: Yankees starter CC Sabathia fired a complete game and allowed four runs on seven hits with a walk and nine strikeouts Wednesday afternoon against Cleveland.
Insight: Sabathia has won two straight starts and posted a 2.76 ERA and a 19/1 K/BB in that span. The big left-hander has dealt with reduced velocity this season and has had to rely more on his off-speed stuff. It has been a bit of a struggle; Sabathia has allowed 93 hits and has a 3.74 ERA in 89 innings.
5/31/2013 10:13:00 PM
Description: CC Sabathia had everything working Friday against Boston.
Insight: In 7 1/3 innings, the Yankees lefthander allowed one run on six hits with ten strikeouts. Friday was Sabathia's first win since April 27th against Oakland.
Cold5/26/2013 5:20:00 PM
Description: Yankees starter CC Sabathia allowed seven hits and seven runs as the Yankees were beaten 8-3 by the Tampa Bay Rays on Sunday.
Insight: Fantasy owners have to be concerned by Sabathia's last three starts in which he's gone 19.2 innings and yielded 28 hits and 13 earned runs. He's lost a few m.p.h. on the fastball and it's showing in all categories.
5/14/2013 10:50:00 PM
Description: Yankees starter CC Sabathia allowed 10 hits but he also struck out 10 batters in 6 1/3 innings Tuesday against the Mariners.
Insight: Sabathia walked two and allowed three runs (two earned) in a no decision. The left-hander is dealing with diminished velocity and has been throwing his changeup more often this season. He has allowed 61 hits and eight homers in 59 1/3 innings (1.28 WHIP), but has been effective nevertheless (3.19 ERA, 54/15 K/BB).
5/9/2013 9:45:00 PM
Description: Yankees starter CC Sabathia allowed one hit and one run in four innings Thursday against Colorado but a rain delay ended his day.
Insight: Sabathia (4-3, 3.23 ERA) came in having allowed 50 hits, including seven homers, over 49 innings this season, so it was good to see him dominate, even in a shortened outing.
4/17/2013 9:48:00 PM
Description: Yankees starter CC Sabathia gave up two runs in the first inning but settled down and ended up going eight innings and giving up three runs in a 4-3 win.
Insight: The Yankees erased a 3-0 deficit in the bottom of the seventh and took the lead in the bottom of the eighth on a solo homer by Travis Hafner. Sabathia is 3-1 with a 2.57 ERA and 1.21 WHIP through four starts.
4/7/2013 7:28:00 PM
Description: New York lefty CC Sabathia looked much better in his second start after struggling Monday in the season opener.
Insight: Sabathia actually outpitched Justin Verlander, allowing four hits and three walks in seven shutout innings. He's not the strikeout king that he used to be (just 9 K's in his first two starts) but if Sabathia can keep his ERA in the threes he'll still be useful to fantasy owners.
4/1/2013 5:19:00 PM
Description: Yankees ace CC Sabathia struggled Monday in his first start of the 2013 season.
Insight: Sabathia (5 IP, 8 H, 4 BB, 4 ER in New York's 8-2 loss) seemed to settle down after allowing four runs in the second inning but his velocity wasn't anywhere near what we were expecting. Perhaps all those seasons of 200-plus innings have finally caught up to the big lefthander. We'll see how he fares this weekend against the Tigers.
3/15/2013 3:55:00 PM
Description: As expected, Yankees starter CC Sabathia (elbow) made his spring training debut Friday.
Insight: Sabathia (15-6, 3.38 ERA, 1.140 WHIP) had a bone spur removed from his left elbow in October. He went five innings, giving up eight hits, all singles and two earned runs. His fastball barely reached 90 m.p.h., but it's early and there is still time for him to get up to the performance level we expect from him.

Insight: Sabathia (15-6, 3.38 ERA, 1.140 WHIP) had a bone spur removed from his left elbow in October and was officially cleared Sunday following a 50-pitch simulated game. He'll jump right in with 65 pitches Friday.
2/16/2013 3:57:00 PM
Description: New York lefthander CC Sabathia, who underwent minor elbow surgery by Dr. James Andrews in October, threw his first bullpen session Saturday without any setbacks, according to an ESPN New York report.
Insight: Sabathia (15-6, 3.38 ERA, 1.140 WHIP) had a bone spur removed from his left elbow. The 32-year-old should be a go for the start of the regular season and can anchor any fantasy pitching staff.
