Description: Starting at 1B for the Yankees, Jorge Posada went 1-2, including his 7th home run of the season.
Insight: Posada has turned his season around somewhat; here's hoping this home run means Posada's power output is about to improve.

Description: The New York Yankees will reconsider Jorge Posada's future with the team if his numbers don't improve by the All-Star break, according a baseball official with knowledge of the Yankees' thinking. SOURCE: ESPN.com
Insight: At this point Posada is just a part-time DH for the Yankees. At best, Posada is a #2 C in deeper mixed leagues or AL-only leagues. In 10-12 team mixed leagues there is no need to use him until he proves he can turn it around.

Description: Jorge Posada has asked out of the New York Yankees' lineup after the slumping designated hitter was dropped to No. 9 in the batting order. SOURCE: Yahoo Sports
Insight: There was no word of an injury but Posada will address this issue with reporters after the game. He has been slumping so you should use another catching option if you have one.

Description: Yankees DH Jorge Posada went 2-5 in yesterday's win over Detroit, including a 2-RBI double.
Insight: Posada recently worked with Yankees hitting coach Kevin Long and has hit in two straight games. It is a small sample size but could be a sign that Posada has fixed a swing issue, since the double did come off of Justin Verlander. The only reason to hang onto Posada right now is the fact he is C-eligible and, if you did, you could be rewarded for your patience.

4/23/2011 10:06:00 PM
Description: Yankees DH Jorge Posada hit his 6th HR of the season.
Insight: Posada is all-or-nothing this year thus far, with 6 homers and a .164 average. Keep him active, as his batting average will go up.

4/15/2011 7:26:00 AM
Description: Yankees DH Jorge Posada hit his 5th HR of the year yesterday, a game-tying shot in the bottom of the 9th inning.
Insight: Posada is only batting .189 on the season, though his power is still there. He is a career .275 hitter so expect his average to come up somewhat. While he might be regressing, a .260 average with 20+ HR's is not out of the question for Jorge, who is still C-eligible in fantasy leagues.

4/11/2011 6:02:00 AM
Description: Jorge Posada struck out three times on Sunday and is in an 0-for-17 slump.
Insight: He said that he doesn't feel comfortable at the plate right now so look for New York to give him some extra time off this week and allow him to take more BP. He will come around.

4/5/2011 5:43:00 AM
Description: Jorge Posada hit his third homer of the season last night.
Insight: It looks like someone likes to DH! The extra rest could keep him significantly healthier this year and allow him to amass a higher at-bat total.

Description: In a discussion with manager Joe Girardi, it appears that Jorge Posada is not even the team's emergency catcher. SOURCE: ESPN.com
Insight: This is good news for owners with Posada on their team, as no time behind the plate equates to a smaller risk of injury.

Description: Yankees DH Jorge Posada said Tuesday that he "wouldn't be surprised" if Andy Pettitte, returned to pitch at some point this season. SOURCE: ESPN.com
Insight: If Pettitte does return, and that is a big if, don't waste a draft pick on him, as he would not pitch until late May or early June.

Description: [caption id="" align="alignright" width="138" caption="The move to DH should help the C-eligible Posada return to form in 2011."][/caption] While I am looking forward to this season, I am also approaching it with a sense of dread. With pitchers and catchers set to report starting on Monday, I believe that I am looking at the beginning of the end for my favorite player, Jorge Posada. The fan in me loves Posada's passion and his switch-hitting power; my favorite Posada memory is him, standing at second base after his double off of Pedro Martinez in the 8th inning of Game 7 of the 2003 ALCS, clenching his fists and screaming as the Yankees rallied from a 5-2 deficit. That hit caused Pedro Martinez to utter the greatest line Yankee fans have ever heard: "I just tip my hat and call the Yankees my daddy". The baseball analyst in me, however, realizes the truth: Posada is down to his final season. His defense has slipped behind the plate, even though he wants to compete for a spot behind the dish this year, and his struggles with starters, especially A.J. Burnett, have been well-publicized. The Yankees will use him as their primary DH in 2011 but, because of his age, his hip injury, and his own declining defense, I expect that Alex Rodriguez will be the Yankees primary DH in 2012. So, if this is indeed Posada's last season, what should fantasy owners expect? For fantasy purposes, the catcher spot is extremely thin for 12-team mixed leagues. If you play in leagues that start 2 catchers, your choices are even more limited and you are forced to either overpay for the C spot or you are forced to draft two good-glove, no-hit guys at the end of the draft. Posada will be C-eligible in 2011 and he should easily be a top-10 fantasy catcher. If he stays healthy, which he has a better chance of doing now that he will not be behind the plate, he has an outside chance of breaking into the top five. [caption id="" align="alignright" width="119" caption="Staying healthy in 2011 will help Posada return to his 20+ HR potential."][/caption] I expect Posada to play in 135-140 games in 2011, giving way to A-Rod or Jeter some days to let them rest, as well. Even in a down year in 2010, Posada blasted 18 HR's in 383 AB's. If Posada gets 525 AB's, I expect a line of .265, with 20 HR's, 70 runs, and 85 RBI's. In an earlier draft profile I projected Buster Posey to do the following in 2011: 525 AB's, .295, with 22 HR's, 75 runs, and 85 RBI's. Posey will go early in most drafts, while Posada will go much later because of his injury risk. Look for Posada to be selected in the later rounds (19-21) of 12-team mixed league drafts; he should cost about $3-4 in auction leagues. Because of the risky nature of the catcher position, I rarely overpay for the position in 12-team mixed leagues, preferring to take a shot on a sleeper; in 2-catcher leagues you don't have that option, but Posada is a solid choice as your #2 catcher in those leagues. In 30 games as the DH last season, Posada hit 4 HR's and drove in 30 runs, which is a good sign for 2011. For one last season, I am looking forward to chanting, 'Hip, Hip'?JORGE!!!'
Insight: Can Jorge Posada defy his age in what could be his last season in the majors? Jeremy Tiermini looks at the case for "Hip Hip Jorge"!

Description: Yankees C / DH Jorge Posada would have surgery Wednesday to repair a torn meniscus in his left knee. The operation was described as "not serious." SOURCE: NY Daily News
Insight: If Posada is completely healthy in 2011 he should have one more solid year left in him, especially if he is the Yankees' primary DH.

11/5/2010 9:38:00 AM
Description: Yankees manager Joe Girardi acknowledged that Jorge Posada is no longer capable of catching on an everyday basis. If Jesus Montero can win the starting job in spring training Posada will be the team's primary DH. SOURCE: NY Daily News
Insight: Getting out from behind the plate should keep Posada healthy for most of 2011. His hitting has improved as he has gotten older and he will retain C eligibility next season.

Description: Posada went 2-for-4 with a RBI and a run scored on Wednesday against the Twins in Game 1.

9/2/2010 7:41:00 PM
Description: Yankees C Jorge Posada returned to the starting lineup today and went 2-3, including his 17th HR of the year.
Insight: Posada is near another 20-HR season; he still will have value in fantasy next season, but expect him to miss games because of his age and the risk of injuries.

Description: Jorge Posada is back in the lineup today against the A's after sitting out yesterday's game. SOURCE: Mark Feinsand of the New York Daily News
Insight: Posada is getting older, but he still has some pop left in his bat. As long as he doesn't get suspended for his actions in last night's game, he's a solid catcher to use in most formats.

Description: Yankees C Jorge Posada pinch hit for Francisco Cervelli, then was ejected for arguing about a strike call. SOURCE: Live Broadcast on MLB Radio
Insight: With the September call-ups, Posada should see some time at catcher, DH, and as a pinch hitter, as the Yankees want to keep him on track but rest him for the playoffs.
