Insight: Mauer missed the last six weeks of the season with a concussion that he suffered when he took a foul tip off his mask on Aug. 19. The move is great news for fantasy owners, as Mauer will remain catcher-eligible for one more year without having to go through the wear and tear of the position. Mauer never has played more than 147 games in a season and has played 140 or more just three times in nine years.

Insight: Mauer, who last played on Aug. 19, had his concussion symptoms return Wednesday and was sent home. He's still without a timetable for a return, but is hoping to get back on the field this season. Given how conservative the team was with Justin Morneau, it is possible we won't see Mauer this season.
