Description: Indians minor leaguer Matt LaPorta leads all Triple-A players in All-Star votes.
Insight: LaPorta has smashed 14 home runs in 45 games for Triple-A Columbus this year. He's batting .309 with a 1.019 OPS. With DH Travis Hafner out 4-6 weeks due to meniscus surgery, we may see LaPorta get the call to the big leagues at some point. The former first round pick has 30 homers and a .701 OPS in 269 career major league games, but players with first-round talent are always worth another look.
4/30/2012 9:36:00 PM
Description: Matt LaPorta went 11-for-21 with three doubles, two homers and eight RBIs in six games last week for Triple-A Columbus.
Insight: Laporta was the seventh overall pick by Milwaukee in 2007 and a major part of Cleveland's haul for CC Sabathia in 2008. He hasn't performed well at the major league level but he put together a solid first month in Triple-A, batting .368 with six homers and 15 RBIs through Sunday. He's already 27 so it's improbable that he'll suddenly light the MLB on fire, but he's worth keeping an eye on.
4/2/2011 10:13:00 PM
Description: Indians first baseman Matt Laporta had two hits today and his first RBI.
Insight: Laporta's time as a top prospect has come and gone, but he's not someone you should turn a blind eye to. In Cleveland's challenged offense he's going to get at bats. It's a make or break year for Laporta. Just keep an eye on him in case he starts proving that he's capable of taking the next step.
3/19/2011 10:31:00 PM
Description: Cleveland First Baseman Matt LaPorta went 0 for 2 today dropping his spring training average to .182.
Insight: Once considered by many to be the top hitting prospect in baseball, Matt LaPorta has been nothing but a dud at the big league level. He just hasnt been able to make the transition to the bigs at the plate. Right now he's not worth a flyer in an AL only league. Forget the name until he gives you a reason to remember.
3/3/2011 6:27:00 PM
Description: Matt Laporta hit a pinch-hit grand slam in Thursday's loss to the Rangers.
Insight: Laporta is a solid "Post Hype Breakout" candidate. Get him in the late rounds of your draft and hope for that breakout. Perfect low risk/high reward opportunity.

Description: Matt LaPorta has been able to participate fully in an off-season training program this year, unlike last year when he was limited because of injury. SOURCE: MLB
Insight: LaPorta is a good late round pick this year as a Post-Hype young player. If he comes into this season healthier than in 2010 he could fare much, much better.

Description: Matt LaPorta is still out of the Indians' lineup today due to a left hip strain. SOURCE: Team's Official Site
Insight: He has shown some power this season, but has not been consistent with it. Once he returns, he should be used in the deepest of mixed leagues at best, because of his recent struggles.
8/30/2010 8:01:00 PM
Description: Updating a prior item, Paul Hoynes of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports LaPorta (left hip) will not undergo an MRI on his left hip.
Insight: The Indians reportedly think LaPorta could be available to pinch-hit on Tuesday night and return to the starting lineup on Wednesday. Andy Marte will start in his place at first base on Monday night. (SportsBuff.com)

Description: MLB.com's Anthony Castrovince reports, via Twitter, that LaPorta (left hip) left Sunday's game with a strained left hip.

8/27/2010 5:03:00 AM
Description: Indians 1B Matt LaPorta's only hit was a game winning 2-run HR against the A's last night.
Insight: LaPorta continues to struggle at the major league level and might not ever develop into anything more than a .240 hitter with moderate power. At 1B, there are plenty of better options heading into 2011.
8/9/2010 9:38:00 AM
Description: LaPorta went 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBI against the Twins on Sunday.
Insight: LaPorta is hitting .259 with seven home runs and 27 RBI with the Indians this season. (SportsBuff.com)
8/8/2010 3:23:00 PM
Description: Matt LaPorta homered and collected three hits in a one-run loss today.
Insight: He homered twice this weekend, giving him seven this year. He has a .259 average and is just on the outside of being valuable in shallow mixed leagues. Owners is deep mixed leagues can use him.
8/6/2010 10:05:00 PM
Description: After leaving three men on base during the game, Indians 1B Matt LaPorta hit a walk-off HR in the bottom of the 9th against the Twins.
Insight: LaPorta has struggled again recently so hopefully the HR pushes him into another hot streak.
