Description: Washington center fielder Denard Span (concussion) took batting practice and jogged around the bases before Monday's game, according to Dan Kolko of masnsports.com.
Insight: Span suffered a concussion Friday against Atlanta. Nate McLouth would start but knee soreness is keeping him out of the lineup too. Span also suffered a concussion back in 2011 but he insists this one isn't as bad.

Description: Washington center fielder Denard Span has been placed on the 7-day disabled list with a concussion.
Insight: Span suffered the injury Friday against Atlanta. Tonight, Bryce Harper (.270, 1 HR, 4 RBI) will be in center field with Kevin Frandsen (.375, 0 HR, 1 RBI) getting the start in left.

Description: Nats center fielder Denard Span is not in the starting lineup for Thursday's game against Miami
Insight: Span is batting .241 over the first eight games but is a career .283 hitter with 20 SB speed.

4/5/2014 10:06:00 AM
Description: Nats center fielder Denard Span is 7-for-15 (.467) against Atlanta hurler Julio Teheran.
Insight: Span is batting .313 over the first four games and a favorable matchup makes him a nice play on Saturday.

Hot9/17/2013 9:43:00 PM
Description: Nats center fielder Denard Span went 1-for-4 in each game of Washington's doubleheader versus Atlanta Tuesday to extend his hitting streak to 28 games.
Insight: Span stole two bases, scored a run and had one RBI to help Washington win both games. The outfielder has hit .378 during the hitting streak.

9/17/2013 11:37:00 AM
Description: Nats center fielder Denard Span is just 2-for-18 (.111) against Braves starter Freddy Garcia.
Insight: Span is currently in the middle of a 26-game hitting streak to raise his average to .284, but this matchup will be a tough one for him.

Hot9/4/2013 12:21:00 PM
Description: Nats center fielder Denard Span has been lousy against Phillies ace Roy Halladay. In 12 at bats he's hitting just .167 against the two-time Cy Young winner.
Insight: Span has actually raised his average by 14 points in the last week (.264 to .278) but we wouldn't expect that trend to continue Wednesday versus Halladay (3-4, 7.94 ERA).

Hot8/25/2013 8:15:00 PM
Description: Nationals center fielder Denard Span had a monster game Sunday versus Kansas City.
Insight: Span went 4-for-5 with three singles and a home run. He's hit .400 during his nine-game hitting streak (16-for-40).

Description: Washington center fielder Denard Span won't play Saturday versus the Braves. SOURCE: Amanda Comak, Washington Times
Insight: Span's healthy. He's just getting the day off. Scott Hairston (.181, 8 HR, 19 RBI) is getting the start in his place.

8/6/2013 10:45:00 AM
Description: Nationals center fielder Denard Span is 6-for-9 with a pair of triples against Braves right-hander Julio Teheran.
Insight: Span went hitless in in last two starts before sitting against a left-hander on Monday, but posted a season-best .289 batting average in July. He might be worth a flier.

7/31/2013 9:40:00 AM
Description: Nationals center fielder Denard Span is 6-for-11 with two homers, four RBI and four runs over his last three games and he has strong numbers against Tigers starter Justin Verlander.
Insight: Span, who played for the Twins his entire career prior to joining Washington this year, is 15-for-42 (.357) against Verlander. Span is hitting .266 with a .687 OPS this season and doesn't offer any power or much speed, but he's a good option Wednesday.

7/28/2013 7:55:00 PM
Description: Nationals center fielder Denard Span didn't hit his first homer of the season until Saturday, but he didn't wait long to hit his second.
Insight: Span went 4-for-4 with a homer and three RBI Sunday against the Mets. However, he's still batting just .266 with 30 RBI, 45 runs and 10 steals.

7/14/2013 9:22:00 PM
Description: Denard Span finished the first half by going 3-for-5 with two RBI as the Nationals won 5-2 against the Marlins.
Insight: He's been a relative disappointment this season, hitting just .260 with ten stolen bases. Span's .672 OPS through 89 games is the lowest of his career.

7/9/2013 3:43:00 PM
Description: Nationals center fielder Denard Span is not in Tuesday's starting lineup versus Cole Hamels and the Phillies.
Insight: Span is 3-for-10 against Hamels, but manager Davey Johnson wanted to get newly acquired Scott Hairston into the lineup. Hairston is a career .400 hitter with five home runs against the Phillies left-hander.

7/1/2013 10:29:00 AM
Description: Nationals center fielder Denard Span, who is hitting .262 with zero homers, 20 RBI, 33 runs and eight steals this season, has been horrendous against Yovani Gallardo, Monday's scheduled starter.
Insight: Span has never produced a single hit against Gallardo in 14 career at-bats. The outfielder is a poor fantasy option, as he doesn't steal or score enough to make up for his lack of power.

6/23/2013 12:48:00 PM
Description: Nationals center fielder Denard Span will watch from the dugout Sunday when his teammates face off against Colorado.
Insight: Span (.255, 0 HR, 18 RBI) has been brutal against lefthanders this season, hitting just .137 in 73 at bats. Until he begins to show improvement in this area, it's safe to assume that manager Davey Johnson will sit him whenever a lefty is on the mound.

6/18/2013 4:24:00 PM
Description: Washington center fielder Denard Span will return to the lineup Tuesday against the Phillies after sitting out Monday with a bruised right foot.
Insight: Span fouled a ball off his right foot Sunday. The outfielder is 7-for-20 in his career against Tuesday's opposing starter, Cliff Lee.

6/18/2013 10:48:00 AM
Description: Washington center fielder Denard Span is hitting just .145 with a .393 OPS in 69 at-bats against left-handers this season, but he has had success against Phillies lefty Cliff Lee in their past meetings.
Insight: The lefty-swinging Span is 7-for-20 (.350) against Lee. He's hitting .256 with zero homers, 18 RBI, 26 runs and seven steals this season, so he's not likely owned in most leagues.
