Description: Tigers right-hander Rick Porcello pitched well Thursday afternoon, giving up just one run over seven innings.
Insight: It wasn't good enough, however, as the Tigers didn't score him any runs and lost 1-0 to the Yankees. Pocello has given up two runs or less in seven of his last nine outings.

Hot8/2/2014 10:42:00 PM
Description: Tigers right-hander Rick Porcello allowed two runs over eight innings while striking out 10 Colorado Rockies.
Insight: With all the talk about the Tigers building a playoff rotation they shouldn't forget this guy who just won his 13th game and owns a 3.18 ERA.

Hot7/27/2014 9:53:00 PM
Description: Tigers right-hander Rick Porcello allowed one unearned run on five hits, struck out six and walked none over seven innings Sunday against the Angels.
Insight: After stranding less than 70 percent of his baserunners every year from 2010-13, Porcello has stranded a career-high 74.7 percent in 2014 and it has resulted in a career-low 3.24 ERA. He's gone 4-1 with a 2.18 ERA and a 0.97 WHIP over his last eight starts and is tied with Masahiro Tanaka, Sonny Gray and teammate Max Scherzer for first in the AL with 12 wins.

7/13/2014 12:24:00 AM
Description: Tigers right-hander Rick Porcello was very good again in earning his 12th win of the season.
Insight: Porcello was shelled for seven earned runs in his last outing after going 24 inning without allowing a run from June 20-July 1. It appears he's back on track again.

Hot7/1/2014 9:39:00 PM
Description: Tigers right-hander Rick Porcello threw his second consecutive shutout Tuesday against the Athletics.
Insight: Porcello (11-4) has thrown 24 straight scoreless innings over his last three starts to lower his ERA from 4.03 to 3.12. The right-hander became the third pitcher since 1998 to throw a nine-inning shutout while striking out zero batters on Tuesday.

Description: Tigers right-hander Rick Porcello expects to pitch Saturday against Texas. SOURCE: Chris Iott, MLive.com
Insight: His start was pushed back a few days because of soreness in his right side. Porcello has gotten off to a great start, winning seven of his first eight starts with an ERA under three. Detroit's 27-14 record this season is easily the best in the major leagues.

5/19/2014 10:59:00 AM
Description: Tigers starter Rick Porcello is expected to miss Thursday's scheduled start against Texas due to a sore abdominal on his right side.
Insight: Porcello will likely have his start pushed back, not skipped. He's given up two runs or less in four straight games to lower his ERA to 2.91 and raise his record to 7-1.

Hot5/17/2014 10:06:00 PM
Description: Tigers starter Rick Porcello held the Red Sox to one run on six hits in eight innings Saturday and is now 7-1 with a 2.91 ERA and a 1.01 WHIP.
Insight: Porcello entered the game with a 10.42 ERA in five career starts against Boston and a 10.03 ERA in three starts at Fenway Park, but he put those struggles behind him Saturday. The right-hander pitched very well last year but struggled with men on base and finished with a 4.32 ERA. This year, he's stranded 76 percent of his baserunners.

Hot5/8/2014 9:36:00 AM
Description: Tigers starter Rick Porcello is now 5-1 after beating Houston Wednesday night.
Insight: Porcello has a 3.49 ERA and a 1.06 WHIP. He's issued just six free passes all season.

4/20/2014 4:52:00 PM
Description: Detroit right-hander Rick Porcello was dominant in Sunday's win over the Angels.
Insight: He scattered five hits and one run over seven innings. Porcello (2-1, 3.15 ERA) walked one and struck out four. His next appearance is scheduled for Friday against Minnesota.

4/5/2014 7:29:00 PM
Description: Tigers starter Rick Porcello allowed just three hits and one earned runs in 6 2/3 innings Saturday against the Orioles.
Insight: Porcello left with a 7-1 lead and picked up the win even though Detroit's bullpen made it interesting by allowing five runs in the ninth. Porcello had a career-best 7.22 K/9, a 55.3% ground-ball rate and a 3.53 FIP last season, but his ERA was a mediocre 4.32 due to a .315 BABIP. Even though Jose Iglesias is out, the Tigers' infield defense should be improved this season and will help Porcello have his best season.

9/27/2013 5:47:00 PM
Description: The Tigers have scratched Rick Porcello from Friday's start and instead made him available out of the bullpen.
Insight: Porcello has had his best season overall, going 13-8 with a 4.38 ERA, a 3.56 FIP and a career-high 139 strikeouts, but the team will use him out of the bullpen during the postseason.

9/16/2013 10:31:00 PM
Description: Detroit righthander Rick Porcello pitched six innings for his 13th win of the season Monday against Seattle.
Insight: Porcello has done well since his nine-run meltdown against Boston at the start of the month (2-0, 1.20 ERA in his last two starts). Still, he's unlikely to crack the Tigers' postseason starting rotation.

7/11/2013 5:38:00 PM
Description: Tigers starter Rick Porcello's suspension for hitting Ben Zobrist in June has been reduced from six to five games.
Insight: Porcello has a career-best K/9 of 7.25 and a career-low 1.72 BB/9, but his ERA is 4.80 since he has stranded just 65.4 percent of his baserunners. He'll return to the rotation after the All-Star break.

7/5/2013 10:18:00 PM
Description: Rick Porcello went seven shutout innings on Friday night, yielding five hits, to pick up the victory, his fifth.
Insight: Porcello is the definition of inconsistent. Over his last six games he's yielded one run or less three times and six runs or more twice. The seven scoreless innings brings his ERA down to 4.82.

5/29/2013 4:48:00 PM
Description: Even after three-hitting the Pirates and striking out 11 over eight scoreless innings Tuesday night, Tigers starter Rick Porcello's ERA sits at 5.29.
Insight: Porcello entered the start with a 6.28 ERA and 29 strikeouts in 43 innings. He shouldn't be owned in any leagues.

4/20/2013 8:54:00 PM
Description: Tigers starter Rick Porcello allowed nine hits and nine earned runs in the first inning Saturday against the Angels and was pulled after getting just two outs.
Insight: There's absolutely no reason to own Porcello. He has a career K/9 under 5.0 and hasn't posted an ERA below 4.59 since 2009.

3/18/2013 11:29:00 AM
Description: Detroit SP Rick Porcello still hasn't been traded due to a high asking price and it appears he'll be the No. 5 starter heading into Opening Day.
Insight: Porcello has talent, but hasn't cracked the 4.50 ERA mark since his rookie season. With the Tigers' offense he could still win 12-14 games, but he's going to hurt your ERA and WHIP and his career 5.0 Ks per nine innings is nothing to write home about. Fantasy owners should seek starting pitching help elsewhere.

3/6/2013 4:37:00 PM
Description: Tigers manager Jim Leyland said Wednesday that he doesn't think using Rick Porcello as a closer is a "far-out idea" but also said it is "highly unlikely." SOURCE: Jason Beck, MLB.com
Insight: Leyland mentioned Tuesday that Porcello at closer is "not necessarily a wild thought" but it seems like Porcello is more likely to be a long reliever in Detroit's bullpen. With Bruce Rondon struggling with his control, look for the Tigers to either trade for a closer or use some combination of Joaquin Benoit, Phil Coke and Octavio Dotel.

12/15/2012 9:12:00 PM
Description: Danny Knobler from CBS Sports reports the Angels have been in contact with Detroit about trading for righthander Rick Porcello.
Insight: Now that the Tigers have re-signed Anibal Sanchez, they'll need to kick one of their other starters to the curb and it seems like Porcello (10-12, 4.59 ERA in 2012) is the one most likely to go. Pittsburgh and San Diego have also inquired about the 23-year-old.
