Description: Tigers center fielder Austin Jackson will begin the season as Detroit's No. 5 hitter, according to Jason Beck of mlb.com. Jackson hit .429 with five doubles, two triples, two home runs and three steals this spring.
Insight: Jackson averaged 142 games, 99 runs, 10 home runs, 50 RBI and 17 steals the last four years. Hitting fifth will lead to more RBI chances, but he'll score fewer runs out of that spot.

Hot3/23/2014 1:44:00 PM
Description: Tigers center fielder Austin Jackson is batting .442 with eight extra-base hits (four doubles, two triples, two homers), 15 runs, 12 RBI and just four strikeouts in 43 at-bats.
Insight: Injuries have limited Jackson to fewer than 140 games in two straight seasons but he still scored at least 99 runs in both. With Jim Leyland gone, he should have the green light to run more often after stealing just 20 bases on 33 attempts the last two years. The Tigers ranked last in baseball in 2013 with 55 steal attempts.

Insight: Jackson has been miserable in the postseason with just three hits in 33 at bats. He's struck out 18 times over that span including twice yesterday in a 1-0 loss to the Red Sox. Detroit needs to win Wednesday's Game 4 to avoid falling into a 3-1 hole.

Description: Detroit center fielder Austin Jackson is 1-for-14 (.071) with three strikeouts against Royals starter Ervin Santana.
Insight: Jackson (.277, 11 HR, 43 RBI, 7 SB) hasn't been able to repeat his stellar 2012 season (.300, 16 HR, 66 RBI, 12 SB) but he is finishing with a strong September (.349 in 10 games). Saturday, however, is an unfavorable matchup.

Description: Detroit center fielder Austin Jackson is back in the lineup after missing Sunday's game with an injured shoulder.
Insight: Jackson (.270, 11 HR, 38 RBI, 6 SB) hasn't been able to repeat his stellar 2012 season (.300, 16 HR, 66 RBI, 12 SB) but he did pick up the pace a little bit in August (.280 AVG in 125 at bats). Perhaps he can build off that success and finish with a strong September.

Description: Tigers center fielder Austin Jackson is just 2-for-12, both singles, with seven strikeouts against Cleveland starter Scott Kazmir.

Description: Tigers center fielder Austin Jackson is just 1-for-11 (.091) against Royals starter Wade Davis.
Insight: Add in that he's 1-for-20 over the past four games and fantasy owners should avoid this matchup. Jackson has tailed off from last season, when he hit .300 with an .856 OPS. He's only batting .261 with nine home runs, 28 RBI, 74 runs, six steals and a .738 OPS this season.

8/15/2013 10:31:00 AM
