Description: Boston shortstop Jose Iglesias contributed three hits Saturday against Cleveland.
Insight: This just doesn't make sense. Iglesias has been excellent in the majors (.481 in eight games) despite a .202 average in 119 at bats in the minors this season. Either way, it looks like he's going to be playing a lot of third base while Will Middlebrooks is sidelined with a back injury.

Description: The Red Sox recalled infielder Jose Iglesias on Friday.
Insight: The Sox placed Will Middlebrooks and Shane Victorino on the DL, which opened up a roster spot for Iglesias. He started at third base on Friday and is playing shortstop today against the Indians.

Description: The Red Sox have sent shortstop Jose Iglesias back to Triple-A.
Insight: Iglesias (9-for-20) played well while filling in for Stephen Drew the first week of the season. Drew gets hurt pretty frequently so it should only be a matter of time before Iglesias gets another chance at the big league level.

Description: Boston shortstop Jose Iglesias exited Friday's game versus Toronto after being hit by a pitch.
Insight: Iglesias took a pitch off the arm in the second inning but didn't leave until the top half of the fourth. Pedro Ciriaco has come on to take his place. Starting shortstop Stephen Drew is only a few days away from returning from a head injury so Ciriaco and Iglesias won't carry any long-term fantasy value.

Description: Back in the minors after a brief callup to the Red Sox, Jose Iglesias tripled, doubled and drove in two runs for Triple-A Pawtucket on Friday night.
Insight: Iglesias was sent back to Triple-A to make room for Aaron Cook on the major league club. The shortstop is known more for his slick fielding, but he's collected two hits in each of his last three minor league games to raise his average from .185 to .228. Iglesias has also stolen four bases in 24 games with Pawtucket.

Description: Jose Iglesias has been called up to the major leagues. The Red Sox optioned reliever Junichi Tazawa to Triple-A Pawtucket to make room for the shortstop.
Insight: With Kevin Youkilis still ailing from a sore back, it seems like the Red Sox are adding an infielder in case Youkilis ends up on the disabled list. The surprise here is that Iglesias was chosen over Boston's third baseman of the future, Will Middlebrooks. Iglesias has hit just .200 this season for Pawtucket while Middlebrooks has been arguably the best hitter in the minor leagues in 2012 (.348, 9 HRs, 27 RBIs in 23 games).

Description: Jose Iglesias has been impressive this spring, making Bobby Valentine's decision about who will be Boston's starting shortstop even tougher.
Insight: Iglesias is hitting just .235 this spring but his defense has been terrific. Most experts thought veteran Mike Aviles would get the starting nod at shortstop but now it looks like Iglesias is making a compelling case to be number one on the depth chart. Even if Iglesias starts, he's a below average hitter with average speed, so he won't help your fantasy team.
