Description: Daisuke Matsuzaka has been promoted to the major leagues.
Insight: Matsuzaka didn't make the team out of spring training but the Mets were impressed with his performance at Triple-A Las Vegas (2.25 ERA in 12 innings). Even if Dice-K joins the starting rotation, he won't be someone fantasy owners can count on for consistent production.
3/29/2014 4:35:00 PM
Description: Jenrry Mejia beat out Daisuke Matsuzaka for the No. 5 spot in New York's starting rotation.
Insight: As a result, the Mets have demoted Matsuzaka to Triple-A Las Vegas. Dice-K has been willing to pitch in the minors in the past though if another team has an opening for him, he could ask to be released.

Insight: It's 50/50 whether he makes the team out of spring training. Matsuzaka was 3-3 with a 4.42 ERA in seven starts for the Mets in 2013.
9/25/2013 10:31:00 PM
Description: New York righthander Daisuke Matsuzaka topped Reds starter Mat Latos in a pitcher's duel Wednesday at Great American Ball Park.
Insight: Dice-K (7 2/3 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 6 K's) saved the best for last. Wednesday's start was a strong conclusion to what was otherwise an unimpressive season for the 33-year-old (4.42 ERA in 38 2/3 innings).
9/15/2013 10:29:00 AM
Description: Mets starter Daisuke Matsuzaka notched his first win of the season Saturday against the Marlins.
Insight: Dice-K (7 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 3 K's, 1 BB) pitched the second game of a day-night doubleheader. It was easily his strongest outing of the season. Matsuzaka's fantasy owners should feel encouraged heading into next week's start against the Phillies.
8/29/2013 10:25:00 AM
Description: Daisuke Matsuzaka is 0-2 with a 8.68 ERA and a 1.82 WHIP after two starts with the Mets.
Insight: After going 18-3 with a 2.90 ERA in 2008, Dice-K has been utterly abysmal over the last five years -- 17-24, 5.63 ERA, 1.54 WHIP, 4.48 BB/9, 1.18 HR/9 in 305 1/3 innings. He shouldn't be on any fantasy rosters.

Insight: Dice-K signed with New York earlier today. He hasn't made a start in the major leagues since last October.
8/22/2013 2:21:00 PM
Description: The Mets have signed Daisuke Matsuzaka, according to Jon Heyman of
Insight: Heyman hears Matsuzaka is expected to join the big league club immediately. New York is in need of starters following injuries to Jeremy Hefner and Jennry Mejia. Matsuzaka had a 3.92 ERA and a 1.28 WHIP in 103 1/3 innings with Cleveland's Triple-A team this year before asking for his release. Fantasy owners can stay away to avoid a headache.
5/21/2013 12:07:00 PM
Description: Indians righthander Daisuke Matsuzaka has dealt with an oblique injury and wildness (18 walks in 20 2/3 innings pitched at Triple-A Columbus).
Insight: Cleveland starting rotation is strong at the top with Justin Masterson and a rejuvenated Ubaldo Jimenez, but their 4.21 runs-per-game allowed is only average. If Matsuzaka could ever regain his control, there might be a spot for him at the end of the rotation.
3/24/2013 9:13:00 PM
Description: The Indians cut righthander Daisuke Matsuzaka on Sunday.
Insight: Cleveland would have had to pay Matsuzaka an extra $100,000 if he had still been on the roster past Sunday. Scott Miller of CBS Sports expects Matsuzaka to sign another deal with the Indians later this week. When he does, he'll be expected to report to Triple-A Columbus.
3/18/2013 9:28:00 PM
Description: WTAM 1100's Nick Camino reports that Indians righthander Daisuke Matsuzaka will open the season at Triple-A Columbus.
Insight: Matsuzaka has been a disaster the last couple of seasons (4-11, 6.94 ERA in 83 innings). This announcement only confirms what we already knew: Dice-K doesn't belong on any fantasy rosters.
2/10/2013 1:28:00 PM
Description: Jon Heyman of is reporting that former Red Sox righthander Daisuke Matsuzaka has signed a minor-league deal the Indians.
Insight: Matsuzaka will be reunited with former Red Sox manager Terry Francona. Even if he does crack a major league roster, we wouldn't expect Dice-K to be much of a factor in 2013.
1/17/2013 3:42:00 PM
Description: Gen Sueyoshi from is reporting that former Red Sox righthander Daisuke Matsuzaka is considering minor league offers from the Indians, Marlins and Mets.
Insight: Matsuzaka was pretty hit or miss during his six-year tenure in Boston (50-37, 4.52 ERA). Even if he does crack a major league roster, we wouldn't expect Dice-K to be much of a factor in 2013.
11/26/2012 9:44:00 PM
Description: Free agent starting pitcher Daisuke Matsuzaka would prefer to pitch for the Padres according to Bill Center from the San Diego Union-Tribune.
Insight: Who wouldn't? The weather is great and Petco Park is one of the most-pitcher friendly venues in all of baseball. Even if Matsuzaka does land in San Diego, he's too injury-prone to be trusted in fantasy.
8/27/2012 8:00:00 PM
Description: Red Sox starter Daisuke Matsuzaka enjoyed a triumphant return from the disabled list Monday afternoon against Kansas City. In seven innings, Matsuzaka allowed just one run on five hits. He walked two and struck out six.
Insight: This was Matsuzaka's longest outing of the season. It was also his first win of the 2012 campaign. His next start is Saturday against Oakland.
8/25/2012 5:25:00 PM
Description: Boston righthander Daisuke Matsuzaka will start Monday afternoon's game against the Royals. Matsuzaka has been out since July 2nd with an injured neck.
Insight: Matsuzaka probably won't be of much use to fantasy owners as he's just 0-3 with a 6.65 ERA in five starts this season.
7/25/2012 9:19:00 PM
Description: Red Sox starter Daisuke Matsuzaka (neck) threw a bullpen session Wednesday.
Insight: Matsuzaka allowed five earned runs in one inning in his last start on July 2, which inflated his ERA to 6.65, but the right-hander really didn't pitch that poorly in his other four starts this season. Still, fantasy owners shouldn't be eagerly awaiting Matsuzaka's return.
7/3/2012 8:05:00 PM
Description: Red Sox starter Daisuke Matsuzaka is heading back to the disabled list. This time it's because of neck stiffness.
Insight: Matsuzaka has been terrible since returning from the DL in early June (0-3, 6.65 ERA in five starts) and even if he does get another shot starting when he's healthy again, you should ignore him for fantasy purposes.
7/1/2012 8:22:00 PM
Description: Red Sox starter Daisuke Matsuzaka has a 4.91 ERA in 22 innings this season, but his 20/6 K/BB ratio suggests he's pitched effectively since he returned from the disabled list. Matsuzaka will start at Oakland Monday, making him a streamable SP.
Insight: Matsuzaka hasn't pitched past six innings in four starts, but he looked solid against the Blue Jays in his last turn (5 2/3 IP, 6 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 5 K). Oakland is last in baseball in batting average, 28th in OBP and 27th in slugging percentage.
6/21/2012 10:45:00 PM
Description: Red Sox starter Daisuke Matsuzaka gave up four runs on four hits in 5 1/3 innings Thursday against Miami.
Insight: Dice-K did the minimum for a quality start his last time out, tossing six innings and giving up three earned runs. His 15/5 K/BB ratio is encouraging, so don't cut him loose just yet.
