Description: Baltimore starter Jason Hammel isn't expected to undergo any additional knee operations during the offseason.
Insight: Though knee issues limited the 30-year-old to just three second half starts, Hammel came back to have a strong postseason, compiling a 3.18 ERA in two appearances. As long as Hammel doesn't suffer any setbacks, we'd expect him to open next season as the team's No. 1 starter.

Description: Orioles righthander Jason Hammel has been chosen to start Sunday's ALDS Game 1 versus New York.
Insight: Hammel (8-6, 3.43 ERA) hasn't pitched since September 11th because of a knee injury so it will be interesting to see if he shows any rust on Sunday. He's 0-1 with 14 strikeouts in 16 innings this year against the Yankees.

9/13/2012 6:20:00 PM
Description: Baltimore righthander Jason Hammel (knee) doesn't have a new injury, according to Roch Kubatko of MASNsports.com.
Insight: Hammel (8-6, 3.43 ERA) left Wednesday after experiencing pain in his knee and he underwent an MRI Thursday. He could return soon but if you need immediate help to win pitching categories or are in a head-to-head league you might want to pick up another option.

9/11/2012 9:02:00 PM
Description: Baltimore righthander Jason Hammel reinjured his left knee and had to leave the game Tuesday night against Tampa Bay.

Insight: Hammel had arthroscopic knee surgery in mid-July. He scattered six hits, walked two and struck out six Thursday while staying in the game after taking a line drive off his elbow. He should be owned in most formats.

Description: According to the Associated Press, Orioles starter Jason Hammel (knee) will rejoin the rotation Thursday against the Yankees.

Description: Baltimore righthander Jason Hammel will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his right knee on Monday. He's expected to miss three to four weeks.
Insight: Hammel's replacement in the rotation is anyone's guess, especially after Brian Matusz went ahead and made his scheduled start Sunday for Triple-A Norfolk. With the trade deadline just a little over two weeks away, expect the pitching-starved Orioles to push hard for either Milwaukee's Zack Greinke or one of the two Cubs starters currently on the trading block (Ryan Dempster and Matt Garza). Even Philadelphia's Cole Hamels might be a possibility.

7/15/2012 11:11:00 AM
Description: Orioles starter Jason Hammel says he is leaning towards knee surgery following the injury he suffered pitching Friday against the Tigers.
Insight: This news pretty much guarantees a DL stint for the 29-year-old righthander. Recently demoted starter Jake Arrieta (3-9, 6.13 ERA) seems like the most likely candidate to fill Baltimore's vacant slot in the starting rotation.

7/14/2012 7:58:00 PM
Description: Orioles starter Jason Hammel will miss his next start Wednesday versus the Twins. Hammel reinjured his right knee in Friday's game against Detroit.

Description: Baltimore starter Jason Hammel left the game in the fourth inning Friday after injuring his right knee.
Insight: Hammel (3.54 ERA) allowed two runs in three innings before leaving the game. He's now lost four in a row after starting the year 8-2. For now, consider the Orioles righthander day-to-day.

6/27/2012 10:08:00 PM
Description: Orioles starter Jason Hammel looked like a completely different pitcher when he stepped on the hill against the Angels Wednesday. Hammel came in having allowed zero earned runs on six hits in his last two starts, but he left after 3 1/3 innings Wednesday after getting pummelled by the Angels
Insight: Hammel served up eight hits and eight earned runs, one less than he allowed in his previous six starts combined. However, he's earned your trust this season, so don't hesitate to insert him into your lineup for his next start.
