Description: Athletics pitcher Drew Pomeranz pitched well through five innings against the Phillies.

Description: Athletics Drew Pomeranz will get a rare start Wednesday as the team lines up their best starters for the return series with the Angels.

Description: The Athletics have activated Drew Pomeranz from the disabled list and optioned him to Triple-A.
Insight: Pomeranz' temper cost him a spot in the rotation. He broke his right hand when he punched a chair on June 16 after allowing seven earned runs in 3 2/3 innings, and Oakland acquired Jeff Samardzija and Jason Hammel while Pomeranz was on the DL. The A's may look to trade him or Tommy Milone for a second baseman.

Mills was 4-2 with a 1.56 ERA, a 0.92 WHIP and 77 Ks in 75 innings with Triple-A Nashville.

Description: For the third straight time since he joined the rotation, Athletics lefty Drew Pomeranz threw five scoreless innings and won Tuesday against the Rays.
Insight: The A's started Pomeranz out in the bullpen so they are watching his pitch count. His 89 pitches Tuesday were a season high. The 25-year-old former fifth-overall pick has a 0.94 ERA and a 1.01 WHIP in 28 2/3 innings this season and should be added in most leagues.

Insight: The A's acquired Pomeranz, the 2010 fifth-overall pick, from Colorado as part of the Brett Anderson trade. The left-hander owns a career 2.97 ERA and 270 strikeouts in 242 2/3 innings in the minors but went 4-14 with a 5.20 ERA in 136 2/3 innings with the Rockies from 2011-13. Insight: Pomeranz has allowed 13 earned runs on 23 hits and walked eight batters over 16 2/3 innings in his last three starts with Triple-A Colorado Springs. Pomeranz, the No. 5 overall pick in the 2010 MLB Draft, has 70 strikeouts, 23 walks and a 4.26 ERA in 11 starts with Triple-A this season after struggling last year in the majors and likely will be up to the majors again at some point this season.

Insight: Pomeranz, the No. 5 overall pick in the 2010 MLB Draft, went 2-9 with a 4.93 ERA and a 1.48 WHIP in 22 starts last season, but it's difficult to trust the stats of any Rockies' pitchers considering the organization used a four-man rotation and limited its starters to 75 pitches for several months.

Renck says he would not be surprised if the left-hander was called up this month.

3/31/2012 6:23:00 PM
Description: Drew Pomeranz was optioned to Colorado Springs. Don't be confused by this move, the 23-year-old is the Rockies No. 5 starter. It's simply they won't need him until April 15 because of the many scheduled off days.
Insight: The young lefty had a great spring with a 0.82 ERA and nine strikeouts in 11 innings. Unfortunately, like most rookies he'll be on an innings limit (170). Pomeranz was one of the key pieces in the Ubaldo Jimenez trade last summer and has a bright future. If you selected him, don't let him go.
