Description: Colorado right-hander Juan Nicasio has allowed 22 earned runs on 31 hits in his last 13 2/3 innings.
Insight: Nicasio lowered his ERA to 3.61 after firing six scoreless innings at Atlanta on May 24, but the Braves got him back for 10 runs on 11 hits in 3 2/3 innings Tuesday. He's 5-5 with a 5.70 ERA and a 1.51 WHIP.

Description: Colorado right-hander Juan Nicasio improved to 5-2 Saturday with a win against the Braves.
Insight: Nicasio held Atlanta to two hits in six shutout frames. He did walk four batters but he countered that by generating five punchouts. In terms of pitch count, this was Nicasio's longest outing of the season (103 pitches).

Description: Rockies hurler Juan Nicasio improved to 2-0 with six solid innings Tuesday at San Diego.
Insight: Nicasio has a 3.50 ERA and a 1.22 WHIP in 18 innings this season. The right-hander's career FIP is 3.98 but his ERA is nearly a full run higher at 4.83 due to a career 67.5 percent strand rate. He has stranded 72.8 percent of baserunners this season.

9/29/2013 10:02:00 AM
Description: Colorado starter Juan Nicasio threw all zeros Saturday against Los Angeles.
Insight: Nicasio surrendered just three hits over 5 1/3 shutout innings. Prior to Saturday, Nicasio had been winless in his last three decisions. He'll close out the 2013 campaign with nine wins, nine losses and a 5.14 ERA in 157 2/3 IP.

7/25/2013 9:52:00 PM
Description: Rockies right-hander Juan Nicasio has given up a total of one earned run on eight hits in 19 innings since returning from the minors.
Insight: Nicasio was recalled after Roy Oswalt went on the DL with a strained left hamstring. The right-hander gave up two hits and struck out nine over seven scoreless innings Thursday against the Marlins. He's a risky pickup, so he should be avoided outside of NL-only leagues.

7/10/2013 2:47:00 PM
Description: Rockies right-hander Juan Nicasio has been sratched from his scheduled Wednesday minor league start and is the likely choice to replace Roy Oswalt's spot in the rotation.
Insight: Nothing to see here. Nicasio has yet to prove he's got any fantasy value, going 4-4 in 2011 with a 4.14 ERA and 2-3 in 2012 with a 5.28 ERA. In 16 starts this season he's continued his mediocrity, going 4-4 with a 5.31 ERA and 1.46 WHIP.

6/9/2013 8:23:00 PM
Description: Rockies right-hander Juan Nicasio struck out seven, walked one and allowed four hits and two runs over six innings Sunday against the Padres at Coors Field.
Insight: Nicasio doesn't have a good ERA at Coors Field (4.31), but he has been worse on the road (4.86 ERA).

5/19/2013 8:39:00 PM
Description: Colorado righthander Juan Nicasio hurled six scoreless innings Sunday against the Giants.
Insight: Sunday was just Nicasio's second quality start of the season. He'll go for his fifth win Saturday in San Francisco.

3/19/2013 7:59:00 PM
Description: Rockies manager Walt Weiss confirmed that Juan Nicasio will have a spot in the starting rotation, according to Troy Renck of the Denver Post.
Insight: Nicasio has added an improved changeup to his mid-90s fastball and could be a decent sleeper if he continues to mix his pitches well. He admitted that he'll need the changeup to be effective at Coors Field, where he posted a 7.24 ERA and 1.89 WHIP in 32 1/3 innings last season compared to 2.81 and 1.29 in 25 2/3 on the road.

7/6/2012 8:28:00 PM
Description: Rockies starter Juan Nicasio will have surgery on July 16 to remove a "floating body" in his left knee.
Insight: Nicasio hasn't pitched in a game since June 2 and it's unlikely that he'll pitch in another one anytime soon. Nicasio hasn't had a great year for the Rockies (2-3, 5.28 ERA in 11 starts) but the fact that he was able to pitch at all this season after breaking his neck last August is still a small miracle.

6/3/2012 4:28:00 PM
Description: Rockies starter Juan Nicasio has been placed on the 15-day DL. He strained his left knee pitching Saturday against the Dodgers.
Insight: Pitching at Coors Field is always a tough assignment so it should come as no surprise that Nicasio's stats at home this season have been disastrous (2-2, 7.24 ERA). However, he has been excellent in his four road starts this season (0-1, 2.81 ERA). Either way, he'll be on the shelf for a while with Guillermo Moscoso inheriting his role in the starting rotation.

4/8/2012 8:59:00 PM
Description: Juan Nicasio's return to the Rockies' starting rotation Sunday was a success. Less than a year after a line drive fractured his neck and skull in a horrific scene last August, Nicasio was able to make it through seven innings of work, allowing just five hits and one run.
Insight: Nicasio struck out four and walked one while picking up a no-decision. Nicasio only has 14 major league starts under his belt so it's difficult to judge his fantasy potential just yet, but if Sunday's performance is any indication, Nicasio looks like the real deal. It really is a miracle that Nicasio is back in the big leagues after the gruesome injury he suffered last summer.
