Insight: He is a great option at any point in the season, but with a 5-3 record against the Cubs over the past three years, along with a 3-1 record at Wrigley field during that span, look for Wainwright to get off to a nice start this season.

Description: Cardinals ace Adam Wainwright had his ligament "trimmed" in his right elbow according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. UPDATE: St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports Wainwright had his cartilage "trimmed", not the ligament in his right elbow.
Insight: General manager John Mozeliak said Wainwright should be able to throw in six weeks, so the procedure would not affect his availability for next season. He likely wasn't going to throw much this offseason anyway, and the Cardinals were already planning to limit Wainwright's work next preseason.

10/8/2014 6:43:00 PM
Description: Cardinals manager Mike Matheny plans to start Adam Wainwright in Game 1 of the NLCS but will have Lance Lynn read as an alternative if Wainwright runs into trouble early in the game according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
Insight: Wainwright was bothered by a "dead arm" back in August, but the ace looked like he was over the dead arm when he won all five of his starts in September. It has apparently returned and many have speculated Wainwright has tendinitis in his right elbow. Therefore, Matheny has Lynn ready in case Wainwright does not feel 100 percent. Wainwright did not pitch well in Game 1 of the NLDS, allowing six runs in 4 1/3 innings.
