Description: Juan Cruz picked up his second save in as many days on Wednesday as the Pirates beat Arizona, 2-1.
Insight: Joel Hanrahan is day-to-day with a tight hamstring. Manager Clint Hurdle has clearly tipped his hand as to who Pittsburgh's closer would be if Hanrahan went down for an extended period of time, but right now it looks as though he is just dealing with a minor hamstring issue, so don't add Cruz just yet.

Description: The Rays agreed to terms with right-handed reliever Juan Cruz on a Minor League contract that includes an invitation to Major League Spring Training, the club announced on Thursday.
Insight: Cruz pitched sparingly for Royals last season before being released and then had season-ending shoulder surgery. If the Rays get anything productive from Cruz this season, it will be a pleasant surprise. (

Description: ESPN's Buster Olney reports, via Twitter, that Cruz (shoulder) will have season-ending shoulder surgery on Wednesday.
Insight: Cruz was released by the Royals earlier in the season, and perhaps this injury explains some of his struggles. (

Description: Bob Dutton of the Kansas City Star reports, via Twitter, that the Royals have released Cruz.
Insight: The Royals are shaking up their bullpen, as the designated Luis Mendoza for assigment and purchased the contracts of Bruce Chen and Brad Thompson. Cruz has been a disapppointment in his little over one season with the Royals, but may be able to latch on with a team desperate for bullpen help. (

Description: Tracy Ringolsby of Inside The reports, via Twitter, that the Royals are "looking to unload" Cruz and are willing to pick up salary.
Insight: Cruz is due to make $3.25 million this season, and has a 1.92 ERA over 4.1 innings this season after posting a 5.72 ERA in 46 appearances for the Royals last season. (

Description: The Kansas City Star reports the Rockies may be interested in a trade for Cruz.
Insight: The Rockies' bullpen has been hurt by injuries this spring, most notably closer Huston Street (shoulder), who may begin the season on the DL. The Royals may be open to unloading Cruz and his $3.25 million salary.
