Description: Kevin Gregg and the Marlins have reached terms on a minor league contract. SOURCE: Ken Rosenthal, Fox Sports
Insight: Gregg saved 33 games for the Cubs last season but figures to be a setup man with the Marlins. This will be his second stint with Miami after playing there from 2007 to 2008.

Description: Chicago righthander Kevin Gregg generated controversy with some of his postgame remarks Friday after losing to Atlanta. He has since apologized to the organization for those comments. SOURCE: Mark Gonzales, Chicago Tribune
Insight: Gregg lashed out at Cubs president Theo Epstein for the team's decision to use Pedro Strop in the closer's role for the rest of the season. Epstein gave strong consideration to releasing Gregg but decided instead to accept his apology and let the rest of the season play out. We wouldn't expect Gregg to be back with the Cubs next season.

Description: Cubs closer Kevin Gregg blew his first save of the season Saturday against Seattle.
Insight: Gregg had saved all 12 of his chances since becoming Chicago's closer, but it was only a matter of time before he blew one. He has a 1.71 ERA and a 1.03 WHIP, but fantasy owners should expect him to both drop off from those heights and be traded to a contender looking for middle relief help.
6/9/2013 7:31:00 PM
Description: Cubs closer Kevin Gregg allowed two hits Sunday against the Pirates but he finished a clean inning for his seventh save.
Insight: Gregg hasn't blown a save yet, which is shocking. More shocking: his 1.02 ERA and 1.08 WHIP. With Kyuji Fujikawa out for the season, Gregg has no competition for the closer role.
4/24/2013 7:41:00 PM
Description: Kevin Gregg recorded his first save as a member of the Cubs Tuesday night in Cincinnati.
Insight: Let's not get carried away here. Gregg has been bouncing around the league for the better part of two seasons now and manager Dale Sveum insists that he'll continue to employ a closer-by-matchup approach in the ninth inning. Gregg is certainly in the mix for saves in Chicago but we're not ready to hand him our full endorsement just yet.
4/3/2013 8:25:00 PM
Description: The Dodgers cut ties with reliever Kevin Gregg on Wednesday.
Insight: Gregg had been designated for assignment but he refused his demotion to Triple-A. Gregg can still find work at the major league level, though it's highly unlikely that he'll be a factor in fantasy if he does.
5/17/2011 12:42:00 PM
Description: Kevin Gregg blew his 3rd save of the season on Monday night against the Red Sox by walking the first 2 batters and then giving up the big hit to A Gonzalez.
Insight: Showalter may be ready to insert Koji Uehara into the 9th inning when the next save opportunity presents itself.
4/27/2011 5:27:00 AM
Description: Orioles closer Kevin Gregg worked a scoreless 9th inning against Boston to pick up his 3rd save of the season.
Insight: This is the third scoreless outing in a row for Gregg and he appears to have a hold on the closer role in Baltimore, for now.
4/18/2011 8:47:00 PM
Description: Orioles closer Kevin Gregg allowed 2 runs in the 9th inning against the Twins. Gregg gave up 2 hits and 2 walks in allowing the Twins to take a 5-2 lead.
Insight: This is Gregg's 2nd poor outing in a row and he could be at risk of being out of the closer's job. Koji Uehara would be next in line and manager Buck Showalter is not one to hesitate on making a move.
3/30/2011 2:41:00 PM
Description: The Orioles will give RP Kevin Gregg the first shot at the closer's role. SOURCE: Brittany Ghiroli via Twitter
Insight: While he may raise your WHIP and ERA, Gregg should strike out a batter per inning and get 30+ saves, if he holds the job.
3/15/2011 2:18:00 PM
Description: Kevin Gregg was charged with five runs (four earned) while getting just one out today.
Insight: Can anyone hold onto the Orioles' closing job? No one has been able to do so in recent years and 2011 should be more of the same with Gregg and the always-injured Koji Uehara as the favorites. AL-Only owners should keep an eye on Mike Gonzalez to get back into the closer picture.
3/3/2011 2:26:00 PM
Description: Koji Uehara is about a week away from throwing after getting a cortisone shot in his elbow. SOURCE: BALTIMORE SUN
Insight: He could start the season as the team's closer if he can remain healthy but he is a poor bet to stay healthy all season. Expect to see Kevin Gregg closing at some point.
1/15/2011 11:23:00 AM
Description: Kevin Gregg has not been promised the role as closer in Baltimore. SOURCE: BALTIMORE SUN
Insight: He will have to beat out Koji Uehara and Mike Gonzalez. Even without a promise, Gregg is the favorite to win the job. Combine the fact that he might not win the job and the possibility that he could win it and then lose it during the season and we can't go over 20 saves predicted for him right now.
1/10/2011 10:04:00 AM
Description: Gregg is scheduled to be in Baltimore Tuesday for a physical. Should he pass, he'll sign a two-year $10 million deal.
Insight: Gregg is expected to close for the Orioles after turning in a career-high 37 saves with the Blue Jays last season. It's worth noting, though, that Gregg had shaky times in the role with each of his two previous clubs: the Cubs and Marlins. (
1/4/2011 5:55:00 PM
Description: Kevin Gregg has signed with Baltimore. He gets $10 million over two years with a third option year. SOURCE: FANHOUSE
Insight: He will be the favorite for saves but he will have competition. Koji Uehara was a better pitcher last year and Mike Gonzalez is still there. Don't project more than 15-20 saves right now.
12/14/2010 5:26:00 PM
Description: Kevin Gregg apparently has a two-year offer from Baltimore. SOURCE: DAN CONNELLY
Insight: If he signs with Baltimore he will be in the picture for saves or fantasy baseball owners will need to keep an eye on this situation.
11/5/2010 4:50:00 AM
Description: The Jays decided not to pick up the $5.25 million option on closer Kevin Gregg. SOURCE: TORONTO STAR
Insight: He will have a hard time finding another secure closer role in the off-season but the possibility is there. His 2011 is really hard to predict right now.
10/2/2010 5:42:00 PM
Description: Kevin Gregg blew his sixth save of the season by giving up two ninth inning runs in Minnesota today.
Insight: Gregg has been decent, but nothing special as the team's closer. With Jason Frasor and Scott Downs likely leaving the roster, we expect Gregg to be back for 2011 to provide a veteran at the back of their bullpen.
9/28/2010 8:01:00 AM
Description: Gregg recorded his 36th save of the season on Monday against the Yankees.
Insight: Gregg pitched a perfect ninth inning on route to the save. (
9/22/2010 8:04:00 AM
Description: Gregg recorded his 34th save of the season on Tuesday against Seattle.
Insight: Gregg allowed a run on three hits while striking out one in the ninth inning. (
